2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

And TCU? Baylor?
There's plenty of P5 schools that don't have the brand, state-wide following, and enormous alumni base of Ohio State.
If you don't think that TCU, Baylor, and other P5 schools that are most likely to make it to the playoffs won't send a crap-ton of folks to the games, you're mistaken. Unless they start hosting playoff games in The Shoe, the Pig House, Crappy Valley, or Tennecheat, the most any one team would get for its allotment would be 15,000-20,000. The B1G CCG has allotted around 15,000 tix to each of the two schools playing, for a venue that holds 67,000...that's less than half capacity.

So now you're trying to argue that the venues only want half the stadium filled based on the allotment to the schools... ok... lol
Regardless how many tickets the school itself gets, they still have to fill the stadium.

LOL is right. You think that just because the allotment for a school is a fixed number that fans of that school won't buy general attendance tickets? Not to mention local-area fans who just like football and the ton of corporate-sponsored tickets. My point was that since the allotment for each school would be small in proportion to the total capacity that those schools would be able to sell all their allotment, and even schools with a smaller enrollment base (TCU = 10,000, Baylor = 16,000) could represent themselves well...

I think the allotment that the school gets has f-all to do with the price of tea in china.
First you spin it one way, now the other.
Fact remains:

This is the best part.
These bowl locations have games every year... and you think the one they'll all go to will involve teams w/o national brands? Keep digging that hole.

Mili, I don't even understand what argument you're making.

The conversation I was responding to was about price per ticket and added costs for family to travel.

I'm not understanding what the relevance of FCS attendance is when cost is so drastically different.

The travel costs may not be that much different. If the FBS instituted a 16-team playoff, the first two rounds would likely be at the higher seed's venue (as is in FCS...not certain about II and III), so travel for at least the home team is a non-factor. I'm not so sure the ticket costs would be all that much different. Plus FBS teams have 85 scholarships vice 63 for FCS teams, and 36 for division II teams (division III teams have no scholarships), so more families of FBS teams would be likelier to afford any extra ticket costs since they're not assisting in paying for their kid's education.

I guess my point is that the cost of tickets and travel for families of the players involved will not be a factor in the NCAA's deciding to expand from four to eight or 16 teams should they do so.

Okay, I understand what you're saying.

I didn't realize we were talking about expansion, just how shitty it is that families of playoff teams now have twice as many travel/ticketing expenses as they did previously and that the overall cost of families travelling for FCS playoff games is MUUUCH less.

Ummmm waaahhhhhh! Seriously though. These families GET to watch their sons play in an amazing game and playoff scenario that will stick with them for a lifetime. Maybe some families wont get to take off work or whatnot but there is money out there for them and they dont exactly pay for the game tickets so there is opportunity. There is definitely outlets for them if their sons get into this situation.

If I had a son that were about to play a playoff for his school, I'd be taking all the vacation time I could get, even get a loan if necessary to make it to those games. If I werent' able to travel across country then maybe there would be something set up for parents more locally so they could all still be together? I dont know but costs to families shouldnt be the deterrent. The amount of money these kids are bringing into their schools, something should go back to them when the time comes for something of this magnitude.

So all day I've been hearing TCU or Baylor? IMO without Barrett now the fix is in even if we win to keep us out.

ALL DAY it's been about which one of those two.. You would figure Baylor was 5th with the way they talk about them. If we win we did so with our system not our QB.

Also I love how all the sudden under ABC's criteria in which the committee is going to make its selections "injuries" is now listed. FUCK ESPN, FUCK ABC, FUCK the big 12 who plays 1 less game, and fuck the kid with the badger hands from 2 years ago in Camp Randall.

It's simple...

If we win, we need TCU, fsu or bama to lose.

If we lose...well thanks for playing enjoy your bowl swag

Oregon winning last night was good because if they lost...He committee was going to but Zona in

I've watched the first half of the TCU game. They're in for a rude awakening if they somehow make it into the playoff. We SHOULD jump them if we win tonight based on what I've witnessed thus far against a 2-9 team that doesn't have a win in their conference. Completely unimpressive. Punt, punt, INT, muffed fumble... no one can convince me that they deserve the spot over us if we take care of business.

It should be (1) Bama vs (4) Florida St in the Sugar and (2) Oregon vs (3) OSU in the Rose.

Already calling FSU a winner and tough luck for TCU and Baylor. Great teams but just not enough.

If I'm correct, it will be a fun playoffs.

Bama (the most dominant team in the last 5 years) vs FSU (riding in with a 29 game winning streak/Defending Champs)

Oregon (most likely rolling in with the Heisman winner and top 5 offense) vs OSU (also a high octane offense and improving defense)

SEC Champs, ACC Champs, Pac-12 Champs, and BIG-10 Champs. They didn't share titles with anybody. Put those 4 in and see who survives.
