2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

I don't want an 8 team playoff. It just lowers the odds of the best/most deserving team winning the championship.

I disagree. With about 130 teams playing DI football the notion that a committee can select the 4 most "deserving" teams is questionable, as will be noted tomorrow no matter which 4 teams are chosen.

If the 32 team NFL can survive a 12 team playoff, the NCAA can deal with 8 teams. Hell, every other level of college football includes at least 16 teams in their playoff.

You say look at the nfl? are you kidding me? Look at Superbowl 46. 9-7 Giants over 13-3 Pats? They shouldn't have even been allowed the the same stadium. It's a complete sham.

If there aren't any automatic ins and they just take the top 8 or 16 nothing too absurd should happen but a bigger playoff is just increasing the chance for some bullshit upset.

We play Oregon in the Rose and the dark one plays free shoes in New Orleans.

Oregon annihilated Zona offensively and defensively by half time compared to Alabama being up 8 going into the fourth, so they will switch. But really its about money, we will fill up the rose bowl. Bama and fsu not so much. They need the proximity.

The only one seemingly worth making, IMO.

Instead of the committee making some statement, they should just do what's going to make the most people (see: fat-cats with the big bux) happy and that's omit the BigXII contenders, put the Pac/B1G in the Rose and let Bama ape rape FSU in their neighbor's backyard.

It sets the course for the BigXII to add 2 teams and a CCG.

Which is MUCH easier than them lobbying for more playoff teams and seemingly what many of the BigXII members want.

It validates the seasons that Oregon and Ohio State have had by sending them to the bowl they traditionally start the season seeking.

It ensures pretty much maximum attendance and TV ratings.

I've got three cliches for you...

"Any given Sunday."
"That's why they play the game."
"The game isn't played on paper."

I think the best option may be a 6 team playoff. Give the #1 and #2 seeds a bye and then let the other teams battle it out. I know there would be bitching about the top seeds, especially from #3, but if you were actually one of the two best teams in the country then you shouldn't have any trouble beating #6 at a favorable location. I also think this clears up the playoff picture a lot. The Power 5 conferences all get their champion in (unless the champion has like 3 losses), and then you have room for a wildcard, be it TCU or a deserving non-Power 5 school.

It seems to me that the reason the committee was never required to clearly define prerequisites for a playoff spot was to allow wiggle room for this exact scenario. The reason they need wiggle room is to maximize profit by including a blue blood with a rabid fan base with national reach if it can be argued semi-convincingly that they deserve a shot.

1. Separate CFBP rankings from traditional polls by switching shit up and ranking undefeated reigning champs lower than one loss teams to set precedent in case it's needed later. So long as FSU wins and remains in top 4, seeding ultimately irrelevant
2. Include non-blue bloods in rankings leading up to final poll if warranted to "prove" it's about finding best teams, not brand recognition
3. Rank tOSU on the cusp heading into final week. They barely win, lose, or Cardale gets injured/performs poorly, "they had it right all along". tOSU beats Bucky like it's medieval times and tOSU is in and the upjumped mid majors are left in their rightful place. Their fanbase that couldn't fill The Shoe can bitch and moan all they want, but no one is listening
4. and honestly, most important,...

Apparently I misunderstood how the Bowl locations were determined.

#1 and #2 aren't set on location until #1 and #2 are determined. Then they are assigned the location that works best for the city/fans/players.

If it's semi-equal #1 gets preference.

So it's pretty much going to be that Oregon hosts the Rose and Bama hosts the Sugar PERIOD (as long as they remain #1 and #2) That means that if the committee wants to send Ohio State to the Rose they put Ohio State at #4 and then FSU at #3. Then they bump Oregon up to #1, which wouldn't really be that much of a stretch.
