2014 Preseason and Regular Season Polls

Wonder if the BCS would have Florida State at 4, or if they are getting dinged more harshly because the committee has more leeway with four playoff spots.

My thought is they're thinking GT has a good shot to beat them and pre-empting the controversy by making them the last ones in.

This is what ALL of the rankings look like to me. They're setting up for the simplest transitions if the upsets happen.

With FSU at 0 losses, there would be an argument about a 1-loss (to a top 10 team) team not being included if they're ranking 1-3.

At 4 you simplifiy the argument. Win and you're in. Lose and you're out, even if you only drop a single spot.

That simplifies things for Ohio State. A win and and FSU loss and they're in.

Very simple for Arizona as well. A win and either FSU or Ohio State lose and they're in.

Baylor at 6 means they need FSU, Ohio State and Arizona to lose.

This is pretty telling at what they're leaning toward for next week depending on this weeks games.

EDIT: Of course the wrench is Mizzou upsetting Bama, but nobody is humoring that idea.

Committee completely covered their asses this week. Biggest cop-out I've seen in a long long time.

Jumping TCU over FSU might be a bit controversial considering FSU is still undefeated, but it completley lets them off the hook. FSU has been surrounded by controversy all season so it's not a big deal to keep them there, especially after they've escaped L's the past several weeks.

Secondly, jumping TCU to 3rd gives them space between them and Baylor so they have a cushion regarding the whole Big12 decision and ordeal. They are taking some flack over the head to head issue and the fact that Big12 has no championship game makes that a slippery slope. The conference already announcing they will be co-champs in the event of a tie puts that much more pressure on the committee.

Moving the Buckeyes up to #5 and staying ahead of Baylor, makes them look like they are still actually contemplating the Buckeye season fairly. Hence the statement "JT Barrett's injury hasn't come into play regarding OSU's position at this time." Yeah, bullshit. CYA all the way. Let's see how they react when/if the Bucks take care of business on Saturday. Just in case, let's go ahead and barely move up their opponent in the championship game and move a couple other top 25 teams on out for SOS issues. I'm not saying OSU should have jumped into the Top 4 but the chance that they will jump all the way to 3 instead of TCU or switching them out is much harder now that they bumped TCU to 3. The chances that an undefeated team will fall out of the top 4 the last week of the season is basically nil.

Baylor is the odd man out. They have a rough resume considering the lack of great wins, except for that win vs TCU head to head! What a mess.

Does this sound like conspiracy? Maybe, but if history hasnt shown a little of the foundation for this type of movement, maybe it would be less viable, but we all know better now don't we?

Completely disagree here. If we're talking history, it would show that chaos tends to ensue. Not only that, but two of these teams (FSU/Oregon) have difficult games coming up. Arizona has already beaten Oregon at Oregon this year and Georgia Tech is looking better than FSU at the moment to me.

Ridiculous that Minnesota fell from #18 to not being ranked, when they played #14 tough on the road. Put another way, they dropped at least 8 spots for losing to #14 on the road, yet UCLA dropped only 7 spots for getting hammered at home by unranked Stanford.

Also ridiculous: Wisconsin only moved up 1 spot for beating #18 Minnesota, yet Kansas State moved up 3 spots for beating 3-9 Kansas at home? GMAFB.

I don't know if it's more covering their asses or just making it clear this week what they're leaning toward with the outcomes next week.

That's pretty much the message. TCU wins and they're in. Period. If FSU wins they don't stay #4, they jump up to #1 and TCU settles at #4.

It's less conspiracy than it is understating the situation. Ohio State is indisputably a championship caliber team with JT at the helm.

The jury is still out on Cardale and even if they can get it together and roll Bucky for the B1G they'd be playing with house money.

Doesn't mean they couldn't win 3 with him, it just means it clearly affects their chances, regardless of what Long says.
