2013 Preseason and regular polls

How long is a 4 team playoff set in stone - do they reassess after 5 years or something like that?

A four-team playoff for college football has been formally approved by a presidential oversight committee, a dramatic change for the sport that will begin in 2014 and continue through the 2025 season. The four teams will be chosen by a selection committee, the semifinals will be held at current bowl sites and the national championship game will be awarded to the highest bidder.

It is just laughable to me that people continue to vote bammer #1...especially by this wide a margin. FSU is clearly, to me anyway, the better team. I guess it's just the usual SEC! SEC! SEC! crap, even though the SEC is down big time this year.

They're the defending champs - king of the mountain until somebody knocks them off. Of course, this isn't really about what happened in previous seasons.

I think the case can be made pretty easily that Ohio State, Bama, Baylor and FSU all have pretty weak schedules this year. Based on "quality wins" I think it breaks down like this:

OSU:
1. Wisconsin

Northwestern has really dicked us over by losing 6 straight- but as a million other people have pointed out, a win over a 1-loss MSU in the conference championship game would look very nice and be a great final impression to leave.

Bama
1. LSU
2. Texas A&M

LSU and A&M are both highly flawed, but definitely stack up against anything on the other schedules. Va Tech has dicked them over by sucking balls. Unfortunately, whoever they play in the conference championship game will get credit for being SEC! SEC! despite being arguably even more mediocre than LSU or A&M. Despite this, their offense looks far from unstoppable and if Auburn or the CCG foe can play good to great offense and defense simultaneously they very well could drop a game.

Florida State
1. Clemson

I would argue that Clemson is the second most highly flawed team of all of the quality wins on this list. They are like Oregon-light... good to great but when they get punched in the mouth they fold pretty consistently. The Miami win has gone from signature to garbage in short order. Despite being absolutely terrible, I am holding out hope that Florida can pull something out of their asses against them. Exactly the opposite of Ohio State (if MSU continues to hold up their end of the bargain), their CCG will be incredibly underwhelming. I would say there is no way they drop one down the stretch, but has ANYONE been tested in the ACC this year considering the competition? I am biased as hell, but I personally think the ACC is significantly weaker than the Big 10 right now.

Baylor
1. Oklahoma

Oklahoma is truly, truly awful on offense due to horrendous QB play and I would say they are the most flawed of the quality wins. The Sooner defense showed that you can slow down Baylor's offense but their offense left them out to dry over and over by failing to drive the ball and control the clock. I feel pretty confident that Baylor won't make it through the next three weeks without losing. Similarly to FSU, an underwhelming CCG- in this case not playing in one at all- will hopefully hurt them if they do remain unbeaten.

Overall I still feel pretty good about Ohio State's chances to move into the top two. Either way, it's absolutely not worth worrying about when there are still potential losses out there for everyone.

Honestly, I don't see how the ACC escapes the scrutiny the Big Ten has had in the national media, and it has really shaped thinking about the polls. The ACC champions have a 3-12 record in BCS games (and the ACC has never had an at-large in the BCS by my count), and OSU is 6-3 in BCS games. Yet somehow the ACC is the league that has strength at the top? When did this happen? Yeah, the Big Ten doesn't do particularly well against the SEC in bowls, but nobody does and surely not the friggin ACC. FSU's entire schedule is crap teams.

If I were to attempt to take out bias and go completely on on field success/eyeball test, I'd say FSU #1, Bama 2a, osu 2b, Baylor 4. FSU looks damn impressive IMO.

That's pretty much what I think as well. I have no issue being behind FSU and 'Bama ... but behind Baylor? And the basis is having a weak schedule ?? Sorry, but it's complete bullshit.
As far as I'm concerned, Baylor has 0 quality wins so far -- they'll get their first shot at one next week. Against an OkSt that lost to WVU.

Actually we have a winning record against the SEC in the BCS era. Which is why I really hope only 1 Big school goes to a BCS game this year. Wisconsin has a strong history of demolishing over-rated SEC schools in the Capital One bowl.
That said, the conferences which have done extremely well in bowls during my lifetime are the SEC and PAC. And it's by no coincidence that the overwhelming majority of those games are at home for them.

Maybe it's because they don't want to get burned should FSUs QB be indicted. I'd also have to ask just who the hell has/will FSU played/play? Meanwhile Alabama has dispatched a decent aTm and LSU.
