2013 Preseason and regular polls

And Max, I don't want to shoot the messenger on this one- I understand that's one of the reasons it's there- but this logic is so absurd that it is mystifying to me.

We're talking about a country and American media that has the general attention span of MAYBE 16 hours, yet [Mark May] from 6-7 years and 2 coaches (1 interim) ago that this current team is catching [Mark May] for it.

I'm beginning to hate it all. Go Bucks.

Not to mention the fact that regardless of what happened in those title games, we still have the MOST BCS appearances and are tied with USC for MOST BCS WINS.

Voters can't be bothered to think past the previous week, but somehow the most successful school of the BCS era is penalized because we're 1-2 in Championship games?

You know who else is 1-2 in BCS Championship games? FLORIDA EFFIN' STATE.

The media bias is there, sadly, largely because of how we [Mark May] the bed the last couple of times we played in NC games. It will abate somewhat when we get back and win it.
That bias should have abated when we throttled Oregon in the Rose Bowl and beat Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl.

It's not an anti-Ohio State bias, it's an anti-B10 bias. Until at least the top half of the conference start to kick ass in OOC and bowl games, we're going to need to get used to the idea of being the lowest ranked undefeated team or lowest ranked one loss team at the end of the year, which means that we may never get the chance to undo that perception on the field.

I don't know how much more clear it needs to become before people (not you) start to realize that Ohio State NEEDS the rest of the conference to do well. Meyer has even said it regarding recruiting, and I think you'll see him say it specifically about on-field performance after we get the shaft this year.

I don't think it's as much an anti-B1G bias as it is pro-SEC.

In the BCS era:

SEC vs. Big 10 regular season: 7-4
SEC vs. Big 10 bowl games: 20-21

ESPN's coverage of the second half of yesterday's game essentially boiled down to Griese and the other clown announcer talking about how OSU's "struggles" against Illinois would cause them to drop in the polls. Meanwhile, I watched ESPN's coverage of Alabama's game against 4-6 Mississippi State last night, despite the fact that Alabama struggled way more with an equally bad team (the game was 10-7 until late in the 3rd quarter, and only ended up 20-7). No mention of Bama dropping, of course, as a result of that performance. Unreal.

As for the polls, I would bet that Baylor will jump OSU in the coaches' poll if they beat Oklahoma St. next weekend. The only question is whether OSU would jump them back if OSU beats Michigan St. in the Big Ten title game. OSU really needs Michigan St. to win the next two weeks against Northwestern and Minnesota.
You have to consider the quality of the announcers in your scenario. I think Nessler and Blackledge are the best CFB team out there.

As was stated by Ord, the bias is as much against the BIG as it is against tOSU. The fact that MSU and Wiscy are not ranked higher when you look at who is above them is laughable.

This doesn't make the above arguments about bias any less valid, but a look at where NFL players come from does support a contention that talent levels in the SEC are a step above everyone else:

With that said, it also says something about the Big 12; the Big Least I think we knew about already. I assume that this tabulation reflected team affiliations at the time the numbers were generated, rather than when the players were actually in school. (I'm honestly surprised at how many ACC players are in the League.)

Bottom line: talent does seem to be greater in the SEC, though not in the overwhelming sense its apologists would like to pretend.

There IS an anti-Ohio State bias. Remember the shots they were taking at the fan base last year?
