2013 Preseason and regular polls

With Stanford losing and Baylor giving up almost as many points as we did--at home--I'm pretty sure we'll stay at #3. Baylor has four more conference games to play, including two aginst ranked teams...all we need to do is take care of business ourselves and Baylor will not jump us.

Something there is that does not want the Buckeyes in the ESPN Bowl.
I am convinced that Delaney hasn't a clue about how to schedule so that it would benefit the BIG. I have yet to hear a quality reason on why the BIG is scheduled out until 2019. Why would he lock us into a schedule for the first 5 years as a new system to determine a NC comes into play? The only thing he has seemed to push for over the last couple of years is this 9 game conference schedule. I don't have a problem with the 9 games in general, just the fact that they are already scheduled for the next 5 years. I just guess I don't understand why Bama doesn't even have a 2015 schedule yet, other than Wisconsin, but we have a 2019 schedule set in stone. Is it a goal of his to make sure that no BIG team will benefit from another BIG teams over ranked ass early in the season(South Carolina, Ole Miss type deal)? It seems like JD has willingly decided to ride bitch in any decision of national import lately. Unless he has all four jacks in his hand and is just waiting to see what color is going to be played, I think the BIG might need to look for new leadership.

I don't know that Delaney has much say in individual school schedules, but for as long as I've been following Buckeye football - where have you gone Vic Janowicz? - OSU has scheduled ten years out. For much of the time I have been a fan, SEC and Big 10 schools could not play each other because of bowl tie-ins, the Big Ten allowing only one team to go bowling each season, and Jim Crow.

With a bigger conference there is a greater demand for games in the big revenue stadiums - I don't think Rutgers players and coaches are looking forward to playing in the 'shoe, but you can bet the Athletic Department's CFO is - add to that, local/state politicians demanding that smaller state schools be given a payday at Ohio Stadium.

Finally, Alabama was not looking for a home-and-home series with anyone, thus Michigan had a choice: Tuscaloosa, Jerry World or Appy State/Toledo/Akron. Because Ohio State has a policy of home-and-home scheduling I don't think you can wait until the results and scouting reports are in to schedule

While it's true that SEC schools seldom leave the cultural comfort of the South, it's also true that the Big 10 feels much more comfortable playing Pac 12 teams and a few ACC teams. No small part of that lies in the history of the Civil War.

I find that highly unlikely

No FUCKING way, a 1 loss team jumps OSU. Not gonna happen. No way, no how.

Fuck ESPN, Fuck the haters, Fuck them all.

Okay, then let's make up our minds. On one hand, the voters are screwing us but on the other hand we're going to get the benefit of the doubt over a one-loss SEC team even though we've seen such teams get NC game bids in recent years. Do they hate us or respect us?

It will happen in the human polls if Stanford wins, but it won't happen in the computers. It is ridiculous, but I'm fully prepared for it to happen. That said, the computers should keep us ahead of Stanford, but won't hold off Baylor.

The human polls are two-thirds of the BCS point totals so if they agree on a number it takes a lot from the computers to override them.

I'm not making a prediction or a wish. I'm just saying IF it played out that way it wouldn't shock me. The system and the people who drive it do not make a lot of sense, sometimes.

My problem is the BIG schedule in general. Look at the Buckeye 2016 schedule as an example. We play the entire conference. Chances are we'll have to beat Wisconsin, Northwestern, or Nebraska twice. Then take a look at Wisconsin. This is what really drives me nuts. I actually have to root for Wisconsin to be good enough to beat Bama once, and LSU twice, over the next three years. In 14 and 15 I pretty much have to hope they win their division going away, which pretty much pisses me off, and brings up my feelings about how stupid this realignment is. In 2016 that can change but they play LSU, cupcakeX2, scUM, MSU and then the Buckeyes before heading into divisional play. I kinda have to root for MSU and scUM to beat them don't I? The 2016 schedule is what gets my ire up. The SEC would never do this to one of the top teams in their conference. They always get that breather in between so if someone loses they can move back up in the minds of people.

Again it's not the OOC that bothers me. I really don't have a problem the how the Buckeyes schedule. We seem to want to play decent OOC teams for the most part. My problem is that That the BIG doesn't seem to concern itself with helping its teams out with scheduling. Where is our Clemson/South Carolina/FSU/Georgia smoke and mirrors schedule? The BIG needs to at least milk some rankings of its teams and let another BIG team benefit from it, the SEC manages to get at least 2 games out of a preseason con job(ole'miss).

Baylor wasn't "at home;" it was a neutral site game at JerryWorld. But your point remains valid, as Baylor's defense was really exposed against Texas Tech.

The team I believe to be the best in the nation is Florida State, at least until Jameis is indicted.

I fail to see a significant difference between having an elite offense and an okay defense (2013) versus having an elite defense with a downright bad-at-times offense (2002).
86, we have often seen eye-to-eye on things. On this we differ. Time will tell which viewpoint is best. I'm happy to leave it at that and avoid needless, speculative arguments. Be well.

LOL.

AP Poll...
Like, it's not even worth "going in" on that poll because it can just be ripped to shreds with its stupidity, but I'm tempted to just go off on it. I'm sure others will summarize my thoughts elsewhere. Joke.
Ohio State still 3rd in Coach's Poll, just 18 votes ahead of Baylor now (and now only 7 votes ahead of Baylor in AP poll but who really cares). http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/polls/
Not updated AP Poll. Baylor is #3 now.
