2013 Preseason and regular polls

They might come for the game, but they won't stay for a week or two spending money. There's no beach, no Disneyland, etc. That means less sponsorship dosh and a less economically viable game. It sucks, and I'm not saying that it should stop playoffs in the North, but it is how it is. Give your spouse the option of location for the same game...you'll see.

Put it in Detroit or Indy, and yes. Put it in Chicago or NYC, and they'll stay for as long as they do in n.o. Phoenix or Miami.
It's time for Gene, Delaney and the Big Ten to grow a pair. for reasons historical, political, economic and geographical, games in Texas are not "neutral" to teams from the north. Further there is no need to put more money into Jerry Jones' pockets.

It's time to even the playing field with regard to where bowl games are played. If Billy Jo Bob has to buy a ski jacket and some earmuffs to watch Bubba play in Chicago, it's as it should be.

If Duke fans can find their way to Seattle in March to watch Coach K's boys, Bama fans can figure out how to survive in Chicago and New Jersey in January. USC can figure out how to play for a National championship east of the Rockies and north of the Ohio instead of their home stadium.

The games that are being planned for January of 2015 are no longer exhibition games to create the myth of a national champ and a holiday vacation. These are games that should have the same validity as the basketball tournament, ergo regional locations NEED to be a part of the mix.

Unless the Chicago and New York Visitors Bureaus are willing to start lavishing the same levels of "working" cruises and junkets to St Barths that the bowls do for Athletic Directors and conference officials, I sadly feel we will never see a true, fair regional playoff system. It's like Lenin said, Man, "look to see who benefits." Right now, the bowls throw money, and guys like Gene-Gene The Dancing Machine are keeping the baksheesh with no one in a position to complain.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu .... Manziel is the last person on earth that should sit alongside Archie with 2 heismans.
He's a complete dirtbag...

I don't think they could give it to him, because of his antics. It would devalue the award. Character is supposed to be a part of the criteria, and you can't completely fail one of the criteria and still win. ESPN will just keep hailing him as the second coming because he's flashy and plays in the SEC. For 10 weeks they claimed Mariota as the front runner, but Manziel still got 5x the airtime. I believe one the agendas they push consistently is to show high school athletes that if you play for the SEC you get more airtime on TV.

I was saying this last year, the writing was on the wall. If a freshman won the Heisman, there was a decent chance that Archie would no longer be the sole 2 time winner. While I was pulling for Te'o before the story broke, I also said anyone else besides Manziel would be fine as the winner...Braxton certainly, Collin Klein, or even Marquis Lee. Currently, if Winston loses some votes (Probably unlikely) from this news story, Manziel would probably have the inside track to the award.

Character is supposed to be part of the criteria, but in truth that went out long ago. Every other year we seem to get a Heisman winner that has some skeletons in the closet. Either the allegations are out before he wins the award, or they surface after. Manziel doesn't belong in Archie's company...can't wait to see the "Heisman House" ESPN commercials pairing the two guys together :roll1:

According to Bill King, who claims to be a voter, there are no criteria. I think the ballot says something like, "Who is the most outstanding college player in year XXX?" If voters want to or don't want to take character into consideration, that's on them.

I could see where the voting ballot would be fairly stripped down. I think the character issues TampaBuckeye pointed out stem from the Heisman description: "The Heisman Memorial Trophy Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football in the United States whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity."

Whether character is part of the criteria or not I think Archie's exemplary standard would preclude Johnny Football from winning again. I suspect that when it comes time to mail in ballots there will be voters that decide Manziel does not belong in the same category as Archie Griffin.

Somebody will eventually win two Heismans again, but it won't be anyone with obvious character flaws. If Jameis is knocked out by the sex assault allegations there will be very strong support by the media to recognize Katherine Webb's boyfriend, Whatshisname.

Some, maybe a lot of Heisman winners have skeletons in the closet, they don't gallivant them around like an 18 year old millionaire playboy child. I am in no way saying the either of these are ok. I can certainly agree that Manziel acting the way he has certainly doesn't belong in Archie's company. It would definitely be a low for the Heisman Trophy. I can't imagine how people would vote for him, particularly previous heisman winners. The problem is, I don't think there are really a lot of great heisman worthy candidates the last two years.

I am convinced that Delaney hasn't a clue about how to schedule so that it would benefit the BIG. I have yet to hear a quality reason on why the BIG is scheduled out until 2019. Why would he lock us into a schedule for the first 5 years as a new system to determine a NC comes into play? The only thing he has seemed to push for over the last couple of years is this 9 game conference schedule. I don't have a problem with the 9 games in general, just the fact that they are already scheduled for the next 5 years. I just guess I don't understand why Bama doesn't even have a 2015 schedule yet, other than Wisconsin, but we have a 2019 schedule set in stone. Is it a goal of his to make sure that no BIG team will benefit from another BIG teams over ranked ass early in the season(South Carolina, Ole Miss type deal)? It seems like JD has willingly decided to ride bitch in any decision of national import lately. Unless he has all four jacks in his hand and is just waiting to see what color is going to be played, I think the BIG might need to look for new leadership.

While everyone is focused on Alabama or Florida State losing a game the team being overlooked is Auburn. Ask yourself this question: if Auburn beats Alabama, then wins the SECCG, do you think the voters won't vault a one-loss SEC champion - who dethroned the two-time BCS champs - into the BCS title game?

I think you can pretty much bet everything you have on Auburn getting an NC bid in that scenario, no matter who is undefeated at that point. And it won't matter how many points Ohio State scores or allows in their wins.
