2013 Preseason and regular polls

Dude are you serious? I love tOSU but Oregon is a better team right now and it isn't really close. They manhandled a very good Washington team at their house. They have a QB in the lead for the Heisman race, they have the #2 offense in the country, etc. They took Cal apart and we didn't. They destroyed Tennessee who has played respectable football. What have we done that is impressive this season?

Not saying we couldn't beat Oregon in a bowl game but right now at a neutral field I'd say the line would open Oregon -12 if I had to guess and would grow to -16 by kickoff.

Washington is a lot like Northwestern - they shot their wad when they lost to Stanford much like NW did when they lost to Ohio State. I don't currently think either one is really a "good" team and neither is a "very good" team either.

And the Tennecheat team that is playing now is completely different from the one Oregon destroyed.

I'm not saying they wouldn't score, as obviously OSU's defense needs more work. But OSU's offense isn't exactly hurting either, and their defense hasn't shown me much either. Would definitely be a shoot out, but I trust OSU's defense to stop them more than I think their defense would stop OSU

Oregon's defense did just give up 500 yards of passing on 89! passing attempts.

Wazzu has no rushing offense whatsoever, but Oregon still couldn't stop them all the time. Imagine what a team with some offensive balance that could execute could do.

I keep seeing images of the Washington/Baylor bowl game in my head.

that's because it is that much more important....the AP poll is entirely meaningless.

Which pretty much sums up my point. There is zero reason for it to be a factor in pumpkin all. Just one of many dipshits across the country that casts a vote. Coaches can be even bigger bitches than reporters can. I can't even imagine what Bert, or the many guys that want to take a swing at Urban do.

What exactly has the fucking Pac done to be considered awesome? Washington, which is Oregon's signature win, is basically NW. I guess I can't forget UCLA beating Nebraska...but Nebraska is in the B1G, so that can't be right. Oh yeah, mighty Stanford! I'd take tOSU, Wisky and MSU against their big three any day for real money

Do you hate real money?
As far as the eyeball test goes. I think Oregon beats us in a shootout by 7. Their defense is about as bad as ours, but their offense is a little more potent. You might win if you bet the over/under of 80.
I'd take Wisky over Stanford any day of the week. They want revenge from last year.
Are you seriously putting BollmanBall in our top 3? THEY SCORED 1 TD ON PURDUE... AND IT WAS A TRICK PLAY? I'd go with Nebraska as #3, POSSIBLY ttun if their offense can keep it up. We already saw what UCLA did to Nebraska, and I imagine the game with ttun would be similar.

Dantonio and Bollman fucking won HERE for years doing the same shit. Their "sparty" moments these days can be attributed to lesser talent. Their D would shut Oregon down like tOSU did in the Rose. Oregon passes the look test every year, until they get beat, then everyone knew they were beatable. It's infuriating how people ignore years of history every year. NW is GOOD, Wisky is gonna end up shitty, Oregon in the NC!, there's gonna be four undefeateds left omg!!!!!!! The B1G isn't as weak as some think, imo. They'll prove it come bowl time, but it will be ignored because that's the narrative.

You can eyeball teams with one common opponent within a td? Do you hate real money? Cause with that skill set, you should move to Vegas and become Emperor of Money and eat endangered species slathered in gold sauce for every meal

Bollman won here because he had better athletes, and he didn't win by a lot very often. There aren't going to be 4 undefeated teams. There will likely be 1 or 2. So I'm not concerned about the rankings. I think Nebraska and Wisconsin are a lot better than they are getting credit for. IMO Sparty has some real offensive problems.

Now that I think of it, you may be right. I spoke to quickly. Last year I put real money on every big ten bowl, because I thought they were underrated. They lost 5 of 7, but they also covered on 5 of 7. So top 3 pac-12 against top 3 big ten, I still think we lose 2 of the 3, but not by much and could very well cover in all of them. Particularly if MSU would be one of the 3. They would be 20 pt underdogs against UCLA, and the final score would be closer to UCLA-17 MSU-10. Big Ten would be underdogs in all 3.

I agree B1G would be underdogs. I just don't see what Oregon has fundamentally changed to warrant thinking they could beat tOSU. The game would be almost the complete opposite of the last one, but this tOSU offense has scored EVERY SINGLE TIME it has needed to this year, and imo they still don't know exactly who they are. I know I'm a homer. That's what makes it fun for me. But when this offense puts it together, they will be ridiculous. I just hope it's this year and I hope the D snaps out of it too

Also, imo, Bollman held back his better athletes more often than they won for him. He minimized mistakes to nearly nil and let the D dominate and demoralize the opponent. Losses weren't when we were out athleted, but when we made to many mistakes. Purdue with TP's 47 turnovers, PSU with TP trying to get around the edgeand fumbling as a frosh are a couple examples

What I'm seeing is that NOBODY (except Stanford) is playing good defense right now. It's as if all of college football suddenly became the B12. I think Oregon is a better team than Ohio State right now(and Bama and FSU and maybe even Baylor), but with Brax and Hyde running at full speed, I think we'll at least have a puncher's shot at any team in the country right now, which is why I want to get a shot at the end of the season.

Also, I can't help but think back to 02 and how all those close games translated into a team at the end that didn't crawl into a hole and die at the first bit of adversity.

ZOMG you turn this site into such a fanboy site :shake:

I mostly agree with you, but I think Ohio State's offensive line is lightyears ahead of the one that dominated Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Carlos Hyde might get 250 and Brax another 100 with at least 5 TDs between them on the ground.
