2013-2014 College Basketball (official thread)

Marcus Smart, aged 20, has acquitted himself with dignity over a season-and-a-half at Okie State.

The TTech fan, aged 40+ from his appearance, has a long history of taunting opposing players with loud and (at least) insulting commentary.

Yet we have people siding with the TTech fan in an incident of confrontation that ended in a little shove?

Whatever. As I said, the 3-game suspension for Smart seems appropriate to me. I hope the TTech fan is relieved of his courtside seats, but given TTech's history of futility in hoop and their likely difficulty in securing long-term fan support, I won't expect that to happen.

It's a done deal that I don't feel the need to comment on further, given that a lot more interesting stuff is happening in college basketball right now. Unfortunately I agree with Bucky32 that ESPN will milk this like Jenna Jameson milked Tito Ortiz's ... never mind.

Tolerating that sort of behavior may actually keep other more desirable fans from attending games. I know I'd be less likely to attend a game knowing I'd be near that jackass.

Ohio State needs to get involved in something like this. I wonder why Gene Smith did not think of this idea… Nevermind
Mark Hollis, the athletic director at Michigan State who's known for his unconventional marketing mind when it comes to sports, has conjured up another wild idea.

This is the guy responsible for helping create college basketball games on aircraft carriers. It's hard to top that, and he's going a different route here, but it's also an unprecedented one.

ESPN.com is reporting a four-team "barnstorming event" (alas, actual barns are not in the plans) that will involve Michigan State, Texas, Florida and North Carolina -- to take place in 2018. How's it going to work? It'll be an eight-day, three-city tour. New York City (Madison Square Garden), Chicago (United Center) and Los Angeles (Staples Center) will also host the event, with each city getting a different matchup.

Weird year.

Check your basements for locusts and zombies, everyone.

I live in Florida, so I don't have the first, the roaches/palmettos are substitutes for the second, and the zombies are already in Miami and Tampa. So yeah, don't know about you, but it has been weird for a while.

But yeah, just a nutty year in college hoops. The good thing is that it means the first few rounds of the tourney should be ridiculously entertaining.

Why is UNC rushing the court against Duke? It's UNC.

Regardless if Duke is No. 5, it's UNC. They can't possibly be that bad this season.
I've never been one to call other teams out for rushing the court.... Until now.

I agree.

Granted, Ohio State fans rushed the field when they beat Wisconsin, but that was a little different. The probability of them winning that game went from 0 to 100% in one play.
