I don't buy Virginia as a threat to go deep in the NCAA tournament. Not for one second. They have gotten a gift of a schedule in the ACC, no road game at Syracuse, and no road game at UNC as well. They lost by 35 points to Tennessee in the nonconference. I think Virginia this year is like Miami last year, a team that was able to pile up wins flying under the radar in a down ACC with a relatively easy schedule. I don't think they have the athletes to go very far.

I didn't say anything about their chances to go deep in the tournament. I pointed out that despite all of the chatter about Duke and Syracuse, Virginia holds the top spot in the ACC. It's a fact - their only ACC loss is a four point defeat at Dook. Given their recent history, it's an impressive accomplishment for the Cavaliers.

OK, good for Virginia if they win the ACC but you can't argue their schedule cheapens it in large part. Only one game with Duke, and one game against Carolina at home, and one home game with Syracuse. There aren't any other teams in the ACC that are particularly talented to test UVA outside of those three, and they have one-plays with all 3 & play 2 of the 3 at home only. Super soft schedule considering how mediocre the rest of the ACC is.

After watching the Syracuse/Maryland game I am not so sure about Syracuse anymore. They just did not look very good against a Maryland team that is not very good. It will be interesting to see how well Virginia plays Syracuse.

Syracuse is a tough team to pick in your bracket. They could be the first #1 seed to ever lose to a #16 with the way they play sometimes. I don't think Syracuse is nearly as good as they were last season but they will get a #1 seed.

Scheduling anomalies are going to be the norm in the age of super conferences so it will "cheapen" a lot of conference titles. Get used to it.

Virginia just beat Syracuse by 19 to clinch their first ACC title in 30 years.
