Coach T seems to have a knack for finding kids that want "us" as much as we want "them."

Everything looks good from my front porch. I'm not real concerned about 2013 right now, because 2010 is blocking my vision.:oh:

Exactly... our best recruits in 2010 are:

Ross Homan
Chimdi Chekwa
Cam Heyward
Justin Boren
Jermale Hines

and any other Junior or redshirt Soph who is sniffing an opportunity in the NFL.

In years gone by, these sorts of talents would bolt. Now, they stay... I have to think it's because more of the kids actually want to be Buckeyes. It's not just something they're doing to get to the league.

I'll take the soft sell almost every time.

And where Miami was in 2004....

Give it a couple of years to see how all these big-timers turn out. It's easy to be a star during the recruiting process, quite a bit more difficult to be a star on the football field at a major college program.

Bowling might be a good idea. Seriously, why do you bother getting so worked up about this stuff? The various AA games are TV spectacles so that the kids who want to big-time their recruitments can get their fifteen minutes of fame. Are kids like that going to pick Ohio State? Do you want kids like that at Ohio State?

Concerning Powell, Easley, Floyd, and Orr ... none of them has played a down of college football yet. Odds say that one will be great, one will be good, one will be functional, and one will be a complete bust. Same odds as we have with Baldwin, Durham, Hankins, and Moore.

As others have said, this will not happen under Tressel. Kids who need the "hard sell" want attention, and they're not going to stop wanting that attention when they arrive on campus. Kids who big-time their recruitment are damaged goods, in my opinion, and a coach is risking a lot when he takes a kid who shows up on day one with an entitlement mentality.

It's better to have an open scholarship than a kid who can't play. If the staff passes on a kid, then I trust their judgment.

Maybe ... then again, maybe we would just see the recruiting games start in September rather than January.

Are you implying that we could have turned Brian Cushing into a three-time All American, Butkus Award winning linebacker if we had signed him? Or Joe Haden into a two-time All American Thorpe winner if we had signed him? Or turned Patrick Turner and David Ausberry into NFL wide receivers? Just curious....

Some of these kids will spend more time picking out a tux for senior prom than they will selecting a college. Kids like that don't belong at Ohio State.

This single sentence about sums up the recruiting game. I mean, you just don't ever know what a kid is going to develop in to when he gets on campus. I don't want to sound like Nero here, but in having followed recruiting with a fair degree of interest over the last 10 years or so, I've come to learn there really aren't that many kids who are absolute must haves for a program like Ohio State (or Texas, or USC, or Florida.. or any other "elite" type of program). And even the ones that are the program changing types might not be "must haves." Take Lamarcus Joyner, for example.... I would have loved it if he had chosen Ohio State because I like all the stuff I've heard about him in terms of ability. But, I have no doubt at all that Ohio State will be just fine without him.

There's not one High School Senior who is bigger than Ohio State's program. Not. One. And when it comes to the kids who actually end up at Ohio State - well.... I've rarely been disappointed. And even the kids with whom I am disappointed (in terms of living up to their potential) - there's always been someone else on the roster who managed to play whatever position is at issue to a high enough level to reward my fandom with win after win after win, and championship after championship... Even if it wasn't the Crystal football.

It's a machine. You have to keep replacing the parts. But, never all at once.

I like those posts you do where you examine the "must haves" who Ohio State "missed" on once those Must Haves finish their college careers. I'm always struck by just how many of those kids end up being career back-ups, or outplayed by the "Plan B" guys Ohio State actually ended up taking.

A good example of what I mean by "disappointed"

I drank the Maurice Wells Kool-Aid. I remember being very concerned as to if he'd actually sign an LOI for Ohio State. He was, in my opinion, a guy we HAD to have....

I wasn't really that excited about Antonio Pittman... I liked Haw a lot better...

I liked Beanie, of course, but I didn't know about him when Mo Wells was being recruited....

I wouldn't trade Pittman or Beanie, as it turns out.

I share this sentiment. What I find funny are kids that are so impressionable that they can allow another kid whom they just met at an All Star game to effect the decision they make on where to spend the next 4 years of their life. Granted many times a kid is torn between 2 places and the camaraderie helps make the decision clear. (Perhaps like Floyd) But sometimes I get the feeling that some of these kids just follow the pied piper.

I want the guy who wants to take all factors into the decision making process before pulling the trigger.

Sure thing, I want the highly rated kids right along with all of you but I am never disappointed in the ones which didn't choose us.
I learned a long time ago that what matters are the ones who did want to come here to play their college ball and even better, those who really wanted to be Buckeyes.
We always do ok with those we get. The kids who want to be Buckeyes play their hearts out for us.
Powell, Easley, Floyd, Orr, Twan, Floyd, and Ware are kids we didn't miss out on, piffle, rather the ones who do sign with us are the ones we get. And those are the kids I want.
These kids that picked another school are already forgotten to me. They are not Buckeyes and never will be. Tough cookies.

In today's collegiate world there are more than enough good players for us. As stated above when the season starts some 5's become 3's and some 2's become fives and we will end up with players who are gamers, who play with all their heart and have the talent to excell.
So those who want to go elsewhere I say good luck.
I will support my team with my whole heart as long as I breath.
Go Buckeyes.

Really a lot of dead on comments by mods and contributors. We care about those kids who want to be buckeyes not those who don't.
The recruiting front page of BP has been very accurate. I believe that BP originally thought we don't get Henderson and his current 'confusion' may hint that he planned on USC/Fl. Don't know him but the 'glamor' thing may be at work again.
Looking forward to an updated BP analysis on recruiting. Thank you
