2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl - January 9, 1 PM EST, NBC

I should have clarified that we have recently lost on the field and in recruiting to those teams but we are improving in both. Floyd does not fit the Tressel kid profile - he was swayed by another recruit (apparently).
Probably shouldn't have clarified. Floyd seems to be a high character kid with strong support system around him and is a heck of a player. Seems exactly like a "Tressel kid profile"

Nobody deserves a classic beer for a post like that :)

Agreed on that. Maybe several beers are needed after reading it, but I think you know that the IPA referenced was referring to an anti-GPA type thing.

At times I really wish an IPA did exist.

OSU really hasn't recruited as well as USC, Fl, Tex, LSU, and Ala (coming back). We are not a top tier FB program but seem to be improving - need OL/DL which we come up short on.
Just to expound on this lunacy...Since 2002:
87-16 (.845)
54-10 (.844) vs. Big Ten
1 National Title
Played for 2 other National Titles
5 Bowl Wins
4 BCS Bowl wins (7 appearances)
7 Ten Win seasons
6 Big Ten Titles (5 straight)
7 Top Ten finishes
6 Top Five finishes

This season:
11-2
Beat scUM
beat 4 ranked teams (final AP #7, 9, 11, 16...Navy finished 3 points out)
Won the Rose Bowl

Yeah, definately not top tier. :roll1: [GOB Bluth] COME ON! [/GOB Bluth]

Recruiting Ranking

Thanks, NFBuck for the stats and summary - we're all proud of our Buckeyes and the kind of kids that JT recruits/lands. No kid has turned down OSU because we lost or finished second - we're in plenty of big games. Hopefully, beating Oregon changed the Fl, LSU, Tex, USC (2) string which shouldn't affect recruiting.

Ronald Powell recruited Joshua Shaw and Shariff Floyd away from tOSU.

I posted this in the Rumor Mill at 12:20 today:

Kids recruit kids as much as staffs do...think Brew Crew. Florida had their own this year. The Meyer news has slowed some folks down for a minute, but Pete Carroll just helped Urban out of the hole.

Just wondering.. Wasn't Seantrel Henderson the first player who got to Powell in the endzone to celebrate after Powell returned the blocked XP?

Aside from USC's mind-boggling run from 2003-2007, we stack up well against any of the teams you mentioned.

Recruiting rankings: Rivals/Scout

............. 2002 .. 2003 .. 2004 .. 2005 .. 2006 .. 2007.. 2008 .. 2009
Ohio State ... 5/3 .. NR/25 .. 9/11 . 12/7 .. 12/13 . 15/16 . 4/4 ... 3/1

Are you kidding me? We have six top-5 finishes, with a national title, in eight seasons...only USC has more top-5 finishes. We also have the most NC appearances out of all of them. I'd say that would qualify as top-tier.

Season rankings: AP/Coaches

............. 2002 .. 2003 .. 2004 .. 2005 .. 2006 .. 2007.. 2008 .. 2009
Ohio State ... 1/1 ... 4/4 .. 20/19 .. 4/4 ... 2/2 ... 5/4 . 9/11 .. 5/5

I'll take the soft sell every time.... well.. nearly every time.. there are some talents, I think, that you can't soft sell.. program changing guys.. but they are rare...

Why? Well, it's the same reason Tress has had success with 3 stars turning in to NFLguys...

When you have a kid who WANTS to be there, you're increasing your chance of success with those guys. They maybe aren't six star talent... but heart makes up a lot of that gap, it seems.

Nice post. Recruiting is THE most inexact science in the world. "Winning" the first week in February doesn't mean crap if it doesn't equate into winning in September thru November.

I'll take a "handful" of true "Buckeye" kids any day over a bunch of *****'s who spend their entire careers wondering if they made the right choice.

Coach T seems to have a knack for finding kids that want "us" as much as we want "them."

Everything looks good from my front porch. I'm not real concerned about 2013 right now, because 2010 is blocking my vision.:oh:

Peace

An inexact science is putting it mildly. Bama's ranking and Utah's rankings did not even guarantee a close game in last year's Sugar Bowl. But the Utes had desire, intensity, great game day execution and a butt load of players playing who had not and would not ever get a whiff of an opportunity to bail to the NFL as sophomores. They hung in and played for their coaches with a fierce disregard of recruiting rankings.

And you, my friends, are tOSU- not Utah.

Short version - No worry of this:

Recruits who have listed an interest in Ohio State at the junior combine:

QB Cardale Jones (OH)
RB Allan Wasonga (WV)
RB Justice Hayes (MI)
WR Hakeem Flowers (SC)
WR Shane Wynn (OH)
WR Shaq Washington (OH)
OL Aundrey Walker (OH)
OL Landon Turner (VA)
OL Tony Springmann (IL)
LB Andre Sturdivant (OH)
LB Tanner Crum (IL)
S Ron Tanner (OH)
S Wayne Lyons (FL)
S Avery Walls (GA)

Another prospect listing OSU who attended the combine is CB Delonte Hollowell (5'9/166/4.66 - Detroit, MI). Apparently he and Wayne Lyons were two of the top performers among the DBs. Lyons was the Defensive MVP for the combine...

Thanks, but I don't think most sensible Ohio State football fans think the sky is falling from losing Shariff Floyd...
