2010 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I wouldn't be at all shocked if Bryant is the only Buckeye out of the remaining offers.

Nor I. I remember when many forecasts along the way had Hicks, Joyner, Floyd, Henderson, James, Ware, and Anderson in it. I suggested that it's just as likely that we miss on the entire list and I was called a pessimist. Just being real, none of the remaining guys left are given as the other guys on that list that committed elsewhere. James has us slightly in the lead with visits still to Florida and ND...don't see us coming out on top. Then Henderson is an OOS superstar announcing on NLOID. Though I think USC helps us a lot, the percentages for us on these announcements aren't in our favor. Granted I've heard tons of positive news lately (many guys on the team think he will be a Buckeye), I am weary. I'm not trying to place blame or vent, just bracing. My actual prediction? Henderson, Bryant and a last minute offer type if Brown doesn't have the grades.

And you know this how?

Not a single person I've talked to about Hicks has ever given OSU a legitimate chance, nor have the analysts or people "in the know" here. Over the last month, Texas passed Florida over the Meyer smoke and he might put OSU as a finalist, but we never gave Texas much to sweat over. Closest to do that was Florida apparently.

If we end up with two recruits for the three open slots, Devin Barclay has to get a serious look at a scholarship offer. I mean, he's only kicked the fg to get us into the Rose Bowl and three more clutch fgs to put us on top in the Rose Bowl....

Devin Barclay was an MLS project 40 player, his schooling is paid for. (or should be anyway)

Since he played doesn't that automatically put him on scholarship? Or no?

I remember someone saying once that as soon as a walk-on plays in an actual game, they lose the walk-on status and must be put on scholarship. I can't remember if that was refuted or not.

Not true at all.

The only 'status' one could lose when playing in a game is 'red shirt' status.

Justin Boren will never 'lose' his walk-on status due to intra-conference transfer rules.

And just who have to "talked to"? While it did indeed look pretty bleak for us for a while, his stated desire for early enrollment along with the way Texas' and Ohio State's class schedules are set up and his delay in announcing his choice, points to us being a serious player again.

So, when you say, "He's not coming here", instead of, "I seriously doubt he's coming here", it implies you know something which in reality you don't...

If you're paying your own way, you never have to be put on scholarship even if you win the Heisman.

I think that may be for walk-ons who took an official visit to the school. I seem to remember hearing something like that when Thoma was being recruited and then decided to walk-on.

Thanks...I doubted that was the case but couldn't recall.

I'd say the delay is Hicks wants to play basketball and will enroll at UT later. Every year there are always predictions made base upon when a recruit says they plan to enroll and the OSU quarter system, yet it never seems to impact the decision for whatever reason. People I have talked to are friends and acquaintances of Hicks from Lakota West...what they have said coincides with what our insiders here and on other boards have stated. I know it's not exactly "close" sources, but I'm not exactly just going blindly on a limb either. Sure, it is recruiting and he could pick OSU, but I would say it is about as likely as Kenny Hayes decommiting to scUM. I would love to be wrong though.

Yeah, and Pretty Sure Delande, Christian and at least one more RB got carries this year that won't be on scholarship, That's all I remember off the top of my head, but, the participation report would have it.
