2010 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

The recruitment of Dunkley and Prater has been one of the rare head scratchers by Tress. Why he'd willingly take Hagerup and Basil in a smallish class with Buchannon just being a RS Frosh this year makes no sense. It's clear that lack of playmakers at receiver has been a problem for us in the recent past.

This makes alot of sense with JT. He is a big believer in the kicking game and always has been. He dovotes at least three scholarships to the kicking game and with Buchanon, Basil and potentially Hagerup he is at that level.

I know it makes sense for JT, just not all us fans. In Hagerup's article he was quoted as saying that Tressel told him "I'm telling my coaches i'm offering you a scholarship" after Tress saw him punt. Makes it sound like a spur of the moment type decision. But also makes us think that the class may be bigger than we originally thought.

The flip side of this is that it's clear that talent/production at punter and kicker has not been a significant problem in the recent past...and the staff is attempting to maintain this solid production. I'm good with it.

Prater is not going to separate much better than Robiskie, probably less.

OSU just brought in Thomas, Stoneburner (receiving TE), Posey, Carter, Jackson, Fields, and possibly Brown. They've got a few more years for Washington & Dane.

I wouldn't mind adding a 2nd WR in this class (assuming Tyrone is the first), but I can also see passing to save room for a pretty special 2011 Ohio class.

I'm thankful that our kicking game never looks like Michigan's.

Rivas was Money from 45 in his senior year Winslow and Lopata was too until he lost all that weight.

I agree, but I also think it's clear this means we have more scholarships available than the original 16-17 that we suspected.

Bill Greene himself said that he'd take Dunkley over any receiver on the OSU roster outside of Posey. I agree however that if we can get Williams that we shouldn't feel bad about not offering Prater. I just hope we don't decide at the last minute that we need another receiver and offer an ohio project late in the process. Much like our QB recruiting from last year.

Rivas was decent.
I don't think I have to remind you about Gingell.
Lopata's missed chipshot vs OSU was a major blow, imo.

Nugent was great, Huston & Pettrey were very good. Pretorious was decent (I still wish Pettrey had regained his job after healing up).

I think that sir is a laughable statement...

Clearly not talking about Ginn, Holmes, Gonzo, etc. Was more referring to the last couple years with Robo, Hartline, Small. Can't count the amount of times people complained about our WR's not getting separation last year. Granted, having a freshman at QB played a large role, but still there is room for improvement.

And I think that's probably a bit extreme.

The last two late flyers OSU took at WR were Robiskie & DWashington.

I'd be curious what would happen if OSU offered Dunkley today. Would he put them in his top-2/3? Would he have done so earlier but not now? Or does he want the offer more than a chance to attend the school?

I agree he probably wasn't considering Carter, but other than that who would you take over Dunkley. And the interest has rumored to be from Dunkley's end more so than OSU's so you never really know until you offer and get him up for a visit. What can it hurt? It doesn't seem like we have many other WR targets for the time being.
