Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

Latest example of Delusional Duck Fan Duplicity:

Part A) Did you know that Terrelle Pryor almost verballed to Oregon.
Part B) Terrelle Pryor will finally get to see what kind of offense would have fit his skill set best.
Part C) Watching Terrelle Pryor cry at the end of this game will be great.

Well leave it to Fox to be wrong. Ohio State isn't ranked ahead of Oregon in the BCS. So Oregon is the home team for the Rose Bowl. But i'm sure as others have said, it'd up to Nike. I say we wear the exact jerseys we wore during the 1997 Rose Bowl. Or our current ones...anything else and that's bull[censored].

Knowing the Rose Bowl, they might not go by the bcs system for home jerseys in a Big Ten-Pac 10 match. Just go back to the even-odd year system that was in place before this BCS nonsense.

In any event, I'd love to see the scarlet jerseys in Pasadena. They haven't been there since the 70s.

Or great bowl tie ins.

We need a corporation in the Big 10 region to get off their duff and promote a BCS level bowl in the Great Lakes region. Something several echelons above the Motor City/Arena Ball/Bowl. Unfortunately Procter and Gamble, a logical choice for the task, rests in Cincinnati and has little to no knowledge of Ohio State or the Big Ten.

I am firmly convinced that the Big 10 pays a price for being the visitor in all their bowl games; the rare exception being the 03 NC game -- but even that case seems to me to prove the point. It didn't hurt that both of Miami's fans decided to spend the day fixing their Camaros.

Game would need to be in Chicago to be a draw in January. Sorry rest of the midwest, but people are not going to get excited about a January trip to Cleveland, Cincy, Indy et al.

Chicago certainly has plenty of Fortune 500 corporations, and huge law, architecture and ad agencies, but I've never sensed any inclination on their part or city hall to bring a bowl game here.

Oh, and I went ahead and fixed that post for you, Cincy.

I don't know if I need to watch another Oregon game or not but this is what I think I saw:

Ohio State has better overall team speed
Oregon's D-line is weak..which bodes well for our running attack
On offense I saw a lot of rollouts, I think if you can keep Masoli in the pocket he will be much less effective
I don't think that Oregon has seen a Dline like O States and Ohio State eats up smaller running backs (and all running backs for that matter)
It's all going to come down to how well Ohio State can play responsibilities. Oregon is going to get some yards, but if you play your responsibilities you can minimize Oregon's offensive attack.
It stinks that our kicking game isn't so great this year because I think field position is going to be big in this game with that offense were facing.
Oregon's DB's play off from what I saw...wayyyyy off. Canfield had all day to get the ball there, it looked like he just lobbed it up there.
If you think Taylor Mays was good, watch Kurt Coleman.
Pryor will be 100% and ready to go. He'll have his legs back which he didn't have for last 3 or so games.

idk I reaally wish I had a game available to me so I could actually "scout" them.. but I don't

And Stanford put 50 on them, and I firmly believe that if we re-played the game in Columbus next week, we'd beat them by two scores.

Their defense got beaten and beaten up as the season progressed.

Not that it takes away from the Ducks' offense; I just don't think that Oregon's team philosophy of "what the hell, let's just try to outscore them" will be all that successful against our running game and defense. They're a team that Tresselball was built to beat.

Oregon is very good against the power run game when the quarterback is not a great passer. You have to have great balance to make it work against them. I dont think Pryor is a prolific passer were as Andrew Luck for stanford played a flawless game. We still were an onside kick away from winning due to the fact that Stanfords Defense had not been able to stop Oregon on last two possesions. If we can play run we will stop you and you will have to beat us with Pryors arm.

As an outsider, my impression is that Oregon is a much faster team than you guys are thinking, and I think you will end up being surprised by it.

Also, I think it will come down to how Ohio State handles misdirection. If they can stay on their assignments then I expect a close matchup.

IDK, the read option isn't going to be as successful against tOSU. They see it all the time. This isn't a traditional power I game like you are insinuating. We will have to see how it plays out. BTW, imo speed offense v offense I doubt will be that different, but I don't think Oregon has seen the size and speed combo that tOSU will bring to bear on them. What has been the downfall of tOSU in the last couple of BCS champ games have been the d-line. unfortunately for those teams tOSU has that now, about 8 deep.

And how many of those sorts of teams did you play this year? The only power run team that you played all year (that I can see from the schedule) is Stanford. Stanford had 505 yards of total offense against the Duck D almost evenly split between pass and run.

Andrew Luck was 12/20 for 251 yrds and two TDs. How exactly is that flawless? Couldn't it also be a matter of susceptibility of your defensive backfield?

Stanford won 52-41. Even if you HAD recovered the kick, and quick struck for a TD; then there's nothing guaranteeing that Stanford wouldn't have scored after it.

Do you think that you could ride Masoli's arm to victory IF you can't establish a run game?
