The Pac !0 is only a shade away in quality better than Conference USA. They have no idea what real football is about and they will have a rude introduction to the subject come New Year's Day courtesy of the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Ducks defense is atrocious. We know this. There is nothing stopping the Bucks from running at will. Pryor will simply have his way with the Ducks D. The Buckeye defense, the likes of which Oregon has not seen all year, will effectively neutralize the house of cards offense that is the spread option. Try playing 48 minutes of smash mouth with the Buckeyes. The Ducks will quickly understand that they have been overmatched and outclassed. And speaking of class, you would never see a Jim Tressel-coached player smack another in the face except within the lawful context of a game. The Ducks are done. Stay in Eugene and mail it in. The result will be the same. The Bucks are unbeaten against the Ducks in recent history, and it is just going to stay that way. Sorry.
Hopefully the team DOES NOT take this approach thats for sure... What's with the extreme confidence here? I don't know about you but I'm still a little concerned about #21 breaking a run or two for long yardage. Sure as you say this team will no doubt have the best overall defense that they'll see for a while, but don't discount this ducks offense. As great as we are don't be surprised at some point in this game these message boards are filled with things like "did we not practice tackling", or "what in the world is our defense doing" or " geez we've got to get off the field on third down".... They're damn good, and perhaps the best offense we'll have faced since last year's USC offense.
Now don't get me wrong we'll win our battles on defense. Infact I believe we'll hold them below many of their averages, but considering how their averages are pretty high we're still going to give up some yards. I do believe we have the potential to shut them down completely, but its going to be assignment football, and sound fundamental tackling that gets that done.
I don't however share the same feelings about Oregon's defense. They can do whatever they want and I simply don't feel like it's going to matter. Don't be surprised if we start slow as we normally do (and fall behind initially) but once we get our feet on offense I don't see Oregon stopping this offense. Sure we're not 100% there yet but we've been running the ball against Iowa, Wisconsin, and Penn State all of which put 7-8 in the box and still couldn't stop us. So it doesn't matter to me if Oregon puts 8 in the box because I firmly believe our oline will be too much for their front to handle.
We'll get some stops, and force some field goals early and in the late part of the game we'll be picking up chunks of 6+ yards. Again Everyone talks about the typical match up of our Defense, but what about their defense that's pretty medicore? We're the better overall team and we'll show that Jan 1, but don't think it won't come without resistence because if you do you'll be pretty upset when it's a well fought game for 3 quarters.
