Game Thread 2010 Rose Bowl: Ohio State 26 Oregon 17 (Final, 1/01/2010)

Shocker.

Either way I'm excited for this game. Oregon is capable of giving our defense a game. I think if our o-line controls the line of scrimmage and we can get 200+ on the ground we win. For the Ducks to win they have to establish the pass early and often. If they can't establish a pass offense it's going to be a long day for the ducks. Blount and James are great backs, but I don't see them doing well against our D-line and it's depth. It'll be a good one.

The Ducks

First of all, is there any college team that has more gaudy and ugly uni's?

Second Oregon sold their soul to Nike.

Thirdly, I have heard many commentators state that this game will come down to Oregon's offense vs the OSU defense. While that may be true in many respects, it is my opinion that it will really depend again on the Ohio State offense. The defense will play hard but Oregon will score some points. Can the Buckeye offense control the clock AND score?

Pluck those Ducks.

Go Bucks:osu:

Yep... was thinking the same. Give me 8 in the box and get the fuck out of the way... Those numbers against ND in '06 would be long forgotten.

Why? Is Tedd Ginn coming back? Is Troy going to be the QB? The Bucks haven't had a wide out who could outrun everyone on the field or a QB who consistently hit him since 06. Posey is starting to show some of that ability, but the passing game has been iffy all year in my opinion. The Bucks are going to have to prove they can pass. If they do, pity poor Oregon.

This is going to be a tough game. It's going to be a road game, crowd against them, Big East officials or worse, against a team filled with players who know the Rose Bowl field conditions from playing there at least once in their career, seniors and juniors having been there twice. This is an offense style that has put up yardage against a number of good Buckeye defenses, the questions will be is it one that scores touchdowns or has to settle for field goals, but they will get yardage.

The Big Game has lost a lot of its luster with the dismantling of the Michigan program. Its much bigger nationally and always will be. But the Civil War this year was rated as the 2nd most watch Thursday game ever behind the Texas TTU game last year (quoting from memory but think that is correct).

Not sure, but I think the Neilson ratings are determined by TVs turned on in the NYC viewing area. The Yankee's season was over, the Knicks suck, the Jets are history, the Giants play on Sundays. My guess is they were watching the Civil War to see if there was any news about Weiss.

Perhaps they'll realize that they faced USC after the wheels came off of that wagon.

Perhaps they'll realize that this is only one of the many reasons that the transitive property of algebra does not apply to football.

Perhaps they'll realize that defense usually trumps offense in bowl games.

Perhaps not.

Regardless... The question most on my mind is:

Is it cannabalism for a duck to eat crow?

Rose Bowl: OSU's Jim Tressel braces for Ducks' offense | The Ducks Beat - OregonLive.com

This is the calm before the Rose Bowl storm, and Ohio State coach Jim Tressel sounds like he's already gearing up.

"They play with such tremendous tempo and passion,'' Tressel said about Oregon on a conference call Sunday. "I know one thing: We better get in shape.''

When the Buckeyes and Ducks meet in Pasadena on Jan. 1, both teams will have had plenty of time to rest and prepare. But Oregon's hiatus will be less than a month; Ohio State's a whopping 40 days. But hey, both teams have waited a dozen years or so to make the Rose Bowl, so what's another few weeks?

cont.

The transitive property rears its head in the article AND the comments. It's amazing that these idiots rely on it so much.

PAC wont struggle in the Bowl games, not because we are the greatest conference ever, we just have horrible bowl tie ins besides the Rose.

Or great bowl tie ins.

We need a corporation in the Big 10 region to get off their duff and promote a BCS level bowl in the Great Lakes region. Something several echelons above the Motor City/Arena Ball/Bowl. Unfortunately Procter and Gamble, a logical choice for the task, rests in Cincinnati and has little to no knowledge of Ohio State or the Big Ten.

I am firmly convinced that the Big 10 pays a price for being the visitor in all their bowl games; the rare exception being the 03 NC game -- but even that case seems to me to prove the point. It didn't hurt that both of Miami's fans decided to spend the day at the beach.

Yeah right, good luck getting that to take. We all know none of the good teams from the southern warmer climes would accept playing a possible Snow Bowl, or even in one where the temperatures are less than 50. The fans would probably balk at the idea of not being able to wear shorts and a t-shirt to the game. Oh the humanity! :tongue2:

I've always thought Indianapolis would be a good place for a major bowl game, especially now with one of the nicest venues in the country in Lucas Oil Stadium. Anything other than the current system we have in place is pie in the sky, unfortunately. The fact of the matter, as always, is that California and Florida are more appealing vacation destinations than anywhere in the Midwest.

I'm anxious to see how many Oregon fans make the trip to Pasadena. I know we'll travel as well as we always do.
