No, just dont understand the logic behind offering another slot/rb when we already have about 10 on the roster. We should be paying more attention to the defensive side of the ball and I dont think he fully gets that.

This set of spring practices will be quite telling. Last year the focus was on getting the offense ready at the expense of the D. With Forcier and plenty of returning but still learning players, there will still be the temptation to focus on the O again.

This is my first post and even though it says I haven't been a member for very long I have been riding with the blog since the dead period between the 1-2 "game" and the nightmare against SC. Being a lurker of all things Michigan football on the net I remember when buckeyeplanet was the only other place to get free in depth recruiting info (before the more neutral recruitingplanet and varsityblue) besides Brian and the occasional Jim Stefani post. With all that being said, from time to time after I've exhausted all of my other recruiting resources, I go back over to bp to see if anything may have slipped through Brian's near omniscient grasp. After perusing their site looking for anything substantive I felt compelled to post; the thing that gets me about buckeye fans is their unholy unabated obsession with Michigan. They have this thread over their called "TSUN and Recruiting" and it has the most replies on the whole *** site, filled with drivel and gobbeldy gook ***, and the second biggest thread is the one about RR. Even in the horribly biased HBO doc on The Rivalry it was apparent that they envy us and we for the most part could give a *** about them. Maybe its just me but, Michigan fans just aren't that concerned with them (for clarity's sake I've never been on a Rivals or Scout board). Over here we don't devote entire threads to them and the day-to-day minutiae that they do over there at bp (they got post up about things like the Leach pro-RR rant on WTKA from a few months back). It bothers me that they talk all this *** but then worship us from afar disguising it as disgust. I know I've been talking a lot but this post was like 4-years in the making, and I had to get it off my chest.

I'd love to see a list of what exactly they think we are jealous of at the moment.

It is actually quite easy to understand the popularity of this thread, especially at the moment.

It is the offseason. Ohio State has not started spring practice yet. Michigan has. Michigan fucking sucks. It is fun to discuss how bad Michigan fucking sucks. Thus the recent explosion of activity in this thread.

Once Ohio State starts practice, I guarantee activity in this thread dies down (with only the occasional mocking of dickrod's ridiculous recruiting strategy) as we all turn our attention to our own team for the spring. Then as the summer rolls around and the excruciating wait for football starts again this thread will probably pick up once more when there is nothing else to do but mock how terrible Michigan is doing in all aspects of their program.

You just came off of your worst season in the 100+ year history of your program. We beat you last year by the largest margin in 40 years. Our current coach is 7-1 against your team. Your coach recruits more slot receivers than offensive and defensive lineman combined. We are not jealous of your team or school you ignorant jackass.

You really have to scratch your head when Michigan offers two WRs in Ohio that OSU had no intention of ever offering, and would have probably ended at Illinois or Indiana had Carr been there, and WR isn't even a position of need for them. Again, it really makes you scratch your head.

You can explain it even easier than that. This thread is a conglomerate of anything michigan related. If you did the same for anything Ohio State related on a michigan board, it would be just as big.

I'm not so sure. Yes we want to come out on top, but we want it to be a challenge. These days beating TSUN is like what beating Indiana used to continually, no one expects to loose to them and they're battling for bottom of the Big Ten. Beating this M*ch*g@n isn't really beating M*ch*g@n. The M*ch*g@n I knew was seemingly impossible to beat, and when that happened, it was a time for great celebrations. Rich Rod is destroying everything I've come to hate (and hate it I do), and I don't like this new image of M*ch*g@n. When TSUN was a relevant power, it was easy to wish they would go winless from that point on, but now that they're close to that point, we realise that just because they wear the winged helmet and sing the victors, it doesn't make them really make them M*ch*g@n. I think we enjoy the chase, enjoy the struggle between good (us) and evil (them), but when it no longer really becomes a competition, it's no longer the rivalry we've grown up with. If Rich Rod succedes in destroying the tradition and excellence (yes they used to be good) that is M*ch*g@n football, he will destroy the rivalry and a large part of what it means to be a Buckeye. I want to see the M*ch*g@n were they were rightly arrogant and not just clinging past glories. I want to see the M*ch*g@n that would consider 9-3 dissapointing, not the one that thinks 6-6 is super. I want my enemy back! I WANT MY DAMNED RIVALY BACK! FIRE RICH ROD!

I will LMAO when they lose a QB named Munchie to Tulane a year after they lose a QB named Beaver to freakin Tulsa.

The guys DRod is offering now are the guys that any other major program would string along until January while they wait for the top guys to decide. And the beauty is, whenever they come to their senses and kick DRod back to the curb they're going to be left with his scraps for the next 3-4 years. The gift that keeps on giving.

What you guys (for the most part, some of you are catching on) are failing to realize is that you are falling into the same trends and generalizations that you usually reserve for programs lesser than your own. BuckeyePlanet is a great tool for recruitment and other purposes. However, it IS an Ohio State website after all. That specific thread talking about Michigan recruiting, if you look at it closely, does have 434 pages. However 343 of those pages came after the hiring of RR. We simply do not RESPECT the way he is running the program. But, as your rivals (which is what we are don't downplay the rivalry due to it being a lopsided one for the moment) are we going to lose sleep over it?

Do you honestly believe we worship Michigan's program? Since when does knowing what you rival is up to in recruiting, and possibly making fun of a reach of an offer, constitute envy and worship? And besides we were happy that you guys got Devin Gardner and whatnot, he didn't all of a sudden become a terrible prospect once you picked him up (as some UM fans and did and STILL do with TP's commitment to OSU).

This is a subconscious effort to not give Ohio State respect for its accomplishments. To be honest from this side it feels abit like a sibling nagging you about something unimportant while missing the big picture. Sure, we like to make fun of things because RR in our opinion was not the best hire. But however our handling of things is striking you, you cannot argue with the results. And Michigan Men respect results. I've worked alongside plenty of them, enough to know this. We are doing well in the rivalry, everyone knows. But it belittles you to actually convince yourselves that we envy your program...that is something that the MSU's and ND's of the world are far better suited to.

I'm not sure who writes mgoblog, but I can say his work is usually funny and informed. Sadly, however, he now appears to be clear evidence that the RR transformation is complete. Aside from "You've never seen a guy like X" from our mid-major fans, what's the other thing you can't get away from? The whole "I'm too good for this" feel when they discuss how much we care about Ohio State football, and how badly we hate our rival.

Here's the thing - I take NO shame in loving Ohio State football. I take NO shame in hating Michigan football. So, mgblog author, you're gonna have to come a lot stronger than this MAC level bullshit.
