2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

The amount of respect and admiration that Woody clearly had for Bo is incredible and I have a hard time believing that if Woody truly hated Michigan as much as you older folk seem to think he did that he would be able to admire and respect Schembechler as much as he clearly did.

Distinguishing person from institution is easy. I can hate an individual with a passion and yet still like the institution/team/company of which he's a part. Conversely, I can also deeply hate an institution/team/company while liking one or more of its members.

His "he's no friend of mine" comment about Bo during the time they were coaching against each other could've indeed been a smokescreen, but his loathing of Michigan football was unquestionably total and genuine.

Oh yeah, allow me to tack onto your "Fuck Michigan!"...

Thing about that is, I can't see Woody having the same respect and admiration for DickRod as he did for Bo.

that's pretty much exactly my point (one of them)

And maybe I should clarify my statement that Woody would be disappointed. If Woody were on the sidelines today coaching our beloved Buckeyes, or even if he was just sitting in the stands, I think that he would most certainly be disappointed that a joke like dickrod was on the sidelines across from him rather than a worthy opponent who could field a respectable team and coach with class and dignity.

I've stated something similar in another thread, maybe even this one, but Rick Trickett (former WVU staffer under Rodriguez) has learned the hard way himself at FSU.

He brought in all sorts of reach type offensive lineman, saying there was a "type" he liked, and he'd coach em' up. It last 2 recruiting seasons, and they've finally decided, maybe talent and unteachable size does mean something (including Ohio's Zebrie Sanders and John Prior).

I feel like Rodriguez is utilizing the same arrogant attitude. He just never publicly stated he'd win with a "schematic" advantage, he only thinks it.

At least they'll have another body to throw him the ball...if he doesn't hurry up and sign with Louisiana Tech first.

Yes, I said Tech. Not State.

Legaux Names Leader - Scout ($)

Louisiana Tech, Tulane, Michigan...seems about right.
in our PS3 NCAA dynasty, I saw a kid who was from Bloomsburg, PA. I gave him a scholarship offer because that's where I went to school. Sometimes I'll see the last name of somebody I recruited a season or two ago, and I'll extend an offer based on that. And sometimes, just like this case, I'll give an offer to a kid because he's got a goofy name.

I see nothing wrong with this offer.

I used to say stuff to Michigan fans... stuff like "Charles Woodson sucks" and it was just good natured jabbing at Michigan fans because they all knew damn well that Woodson didn't suck... and they figured I knew that too.

But....

Now, when I say something like that..... well... I feel like a bully.

Not that that stops me.

Is it possible, especially in today's day of age where even High School coaches are scutinized and under pressure to perform, that the heightened intelligence and awareness of playing in Michigan's system decreases your opportunity to succeed and reach the NFL.

I just don't see many well informed High School coaches wanting to send kids they've coached and developed for 3-4 years to a program that likely results in them not having a football career upon completion at Michigan. His system does not develop or prepare you for the NFL. Proof is in the pudding.

I think it likely explains the massive amounts of offers, and reaches on recruits. They utilize the carpet-bomb approach, knowing the "elite" athlete is not likely to want to play in his system.

Terrelle Pryor said it best: "I want to be developed into an NFL QB".

And it doesn't just encompass that position. Why would a WR want to catch 20-30 balls a year as the QB and RB handle the ball all game? Why would an elite OL want to be developed in a system that doesn't teach proper pass protection?

I said it from day 1.....offensively, they just aren't going to get many top level prospects. They might get a QB and RB or 2, but they certainly aren't bringing in elite receivers and offensive lineman. It just will not happen.

Sheridan Breaks Leg (yahoo)

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP)?Michigan quarterback Nick Sheridan will miss the rest of spring drills with a broken leg.
Wolverines coach Rich Rodriguez said on Thursday that Sheridan was injured during a scrimmage on Tuesday.
Sheridan is expected to be out for four to six weeks and should be able to work out with his teammates this summer.

I thought I would add my $0.02 to the discussion regarding all of the talk about how DickRod is ruining the scUM football program. Not only is he dealing devastating blow after blow with his recruiting philosophy (if you can call it a philosophy), but his total disregard for what will actually work from a schematic standpoint in the Big TEleveN conference, where the quality of athletes, game planning, coaching philosophy are far superior to what he was used to seeing in the Big lEast, is driving this program into the ground faster and more completely than a GBU-28. His arrogance, and ineptitude, seemingly have no bounds. And, it is glorious. I, personally, could not be happier. Really, it is fitting, and certainly no less than those weasels deserve. lest we forget that part of the rift between tOSU and scUM is their unbridled arrogance. Harvard of the west? ( Well, that analogy seems to be fitting now more than ever in terms of their football program.), most wins in CFB history, more head to head wins (so far), blah, blah, fucking blah. They have ALWAYS looked down their upturned noses at us, and its no less than they deserve to have this pariah completely devestate them from within. The beauty is that it is their own doing (or un-doing, as it were).

It may be obvious, but my utter disdain for anything and everything scUM is limitless. I would want to, and hope that we would destroy them in a game of tiddly winks. If those fucks lost every game from now until the earth burned, it would not hurt my feelings. So, all this talk about ruining the rivalry is lost on me. Here is a pragmatic reason why though.

We are moving into an era in which the classic rivalries in college football are becoming, increasingly, less important as the parity amongst the teams that play D1-A is increasing, and if the majority of people, congress, president, the media and the more insignificant conferences get their way, and institute a playoff system, at some point, the old rivalries will be somewhat meaningless. It is inevitable. At the rate we are going, collectively, we very well may overtake them in, at least, head to head wins, if not overall (I suspect Texas will be #1 for a spell). My point being, hasn't this been what we have always wanted? To finally beat them once and for all, to come out on top? When this era is done, and the new one is deciding which rivalries are going to shape the next hundred years of college football, I want to be able to walk away from this life and say "Game over, good guys win, FUCK MICHIGAN!"
