2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

If Woody was so concerned about "keeping Michigan great", then why did he purposely steer recruits (that he knew weren't going to commit Ohio State) to Notre Dame just to keep them away from Michigan? In fact, he did so to the point that he called himself "Notre Dame's greatest recruiter".

Trust me, while Woody motivated himself via challenges, he would not feel sorry for Michigan one iota.

I am not saying that Woody would feel sorry for today's incarnation of Michigan, just disappointed

Woody did everything he could to keep Michigan down in terms of recruiting because Schembechler was a worthy opponent and the recruiting battle was a major part of their competition, that has nothing to do with the fact that I think Woody would have enjoyed beating the shit out of great teams more than inferior ones

Here's the thing, if they were still good but were losing The Game ala OSU in the 90's they could still have some pride and say we just had their number. Being good overall and losing to a rival isn't humiliating, its infuriating.

What scUM is going through is a complete and total humiliation for a program that unabashadly reveled in their institutional arrogance. They are losing battles on the field to Appy State and Toledo, they are losing recruiting battles to Tulsa. The karma generated from the "Pardon our Arrrogance" attitude has come home to roost and it's a soul crushing, heartless bitch. The abject humiliation they are suffering is right and it is good.

I have said it before but I hope they lose so often for so long they quit the sport. I don't want to hear how it affects The Game or the B10's reputation or anything else. Nothing is more enjoyable than watching those arrogant bastards competely humiliated. Nothing.

So, I'm guessing your prime Buckeye growing years were in the 90's?

If so, I totally understand because I remember watching those games with my father and I think were both still pissed about that decade.

The problem I see with this is that most Michigan fans are too fucking stupid to be completely humiliated. The schadenfreude I feel from them being so unbelievably terrible is ruined by the fact that most of them are too dense to be miserable, either that or they do everything in their power to hide their humiliation and misery.

Michigan fans could not hide their misery no matter how much they tried after The Game in 2006, the schadenfreude I felt from their despair combined with the sheer joy that I felt after that victory is light years beyond any amount of enjoyment I get out of watching the circus that dickrod is running now, no matter how bad it gets.

I will take The Game version 1973/2006 over The Game version 2008 in a heartbeat without any reservation whatsoever.

So, you're saying Woody would be disappointed that Michigan is bad while at the same time he was purposely steering talent away from them? Ever hear of the word "contradiction"?

Woody is no way, shape, or form would be "disappointed" in what's happening to Michigan right now. He surely wasn't disappointed in the '50s and most of the '60s when Michigan stunk up the joint and he owned them to the tune of 12 wins to 6 losses, including an 8-2 stretch from '54-'63.

80's but the 90's are still seared into my memory like a hot iron to the taint region.

Despite Woody's best efforts to steer talent away, the Michigan teams during the Ten Year War were still pretty damn good. All I am saying is that Woody enjoyed the competition he had with Bo during the Ten Year War more than any other period he coached at Ohio State, regardless of what his record was (if he never won any games during the Ten Year War then it would obviously be a different story).

And maybe I should clarify my statement that Woody would be disappointed. If Woody were on the sidelines today coaching our beloved Buckeyes, or even if he was just sitting in the stands, I think that he would most certainly be disappointed that a joke like dickrod was on the sidelines across from him rather than a worthy opponent who could field a respectable team and coach with class and dignity.

I see no contradictions in Woody, or anyone else, getting the most enjoyment out a victory that was achieved over a team that was your equal. When you play teams that are great, you win because you work harder, your willpower is greater, and you just fucking want it more.

Last year we beat Michigan because they fucking sucked. Are you really saying that Woody would have enjoyed last years victory more than the ones he achived during the 70's?

To quote the man himself:

Well, if there is one good thing I can take away from RR giving midgets offers its this...

We could field a BuckeyePlanet team, and be larger than 90% of scUM's players. Just a thought...

Obviously Woody could not keep all the good talent from going up north, but that doesn't change the fact that he did what he could to keep talent from getting there. He may have enjoyed his competition against Bo, but it didn't effect on how he prepared for, or his intense hatred for, Michigan.

He may have been disappointed that a numbnuts hilljack like DickRod would be coaching at the same level as he, but he would not have been disappointed in Michigan football flopping around like a fish out of water...

I think I read that Tony Drake has yet to even start a HS Varsity game? is this true?

if so Rich Rod is really reaching
He was supposedly a backup his junior year.

Like I said, I'm shocked at the level of recruits this guy is taking. I never bought into the whole "ZOMG! RR is gonna dominate recruiting at um!!!11!!1!" crap that so many scUMmers were spewing when he arrived, but I figured he'd do better than this. I thought he'd at least get a handful of elite backs/athletes, but he just seems to be going after the same guys he would have at wvu.

M*ch*g*n used to be real players for elite/5* guys. That just doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Is it because they're scared off by Dick's system? Or is he just not going after these guys as hard as the previous regime and instead just settling on the same types the brought him success at wvu? Because if he thinks that's gonna get him 10-11 wins a year up there like it did in the big east, he's even dumber than I suspect.

Nothing? How about having a 3-way with Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel while watching the Buckeyes beat a Tebow-led Florida team to win the BCS Title game next January?

I don't mean to be an argumentative prick, I just welcome a challenge. :wink2:
