Heisman winner Charles Woodson 'not excited' about Wolverines

Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

Ann Arbor -- For former Michigan Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson, watching the Wolverines has been tough.
Michigan (5-4) has lost four straight in the Big Ten and is coming off a dismal setback at Illinois.
When asked his impressions of the current program, now in the second year under Rich Rodriguez, Woodson didn't mince words.
"I'm not excited about it ... I'm not excited about losing," Woodson said Tuesday during a visit to Ann Arbor. "It started out on fire (this season) and looked good for a short period, but it's hard to watch.
"A place you love and played, and to see your team struggling like that is hard."
"We're taking a beating," he said. "I'm getting flak from a guy who went to Cincinnati. I never thought a day in my life I'd be taking flak from somebody from Cincinnati."

A very interesting blog article by a disgruntled scUM fan. Addresses the "sinking ship that is scUM".....

3.The disastrous Class of 2005 is still leaving ripples through Michigan's program.
Michigan's "disastrous Class of 2005" had nine defensive recruits, three of whom graduated, one of whom moved to offense, and the other five of whom left the program prematurely. This is given as a primary reason for Michigan's horrible defense during the 2008 and 2009 seasons (i.e., four and five years after those 2005 players were recruited).

In 2003, Ohio State had eleven defensive recruits, three of whom graduated, one of whom transferred to offense, and seven of whom left the program prematurely ... so basically, the Buckeyes had an equally bad or worse recruiting class in 2003 than did Michigan in 2005. However, in 2006 and 2007 (i.e., four and five years after those 2003 players were recruited), Ohio State had a combined record of 23-3, won two outright Big Ten titles, participated in two national championship games, was 2nd in scoring defense in 2006 (10.4 points per game), was 12th in total defense in 2006 (280.5 yards per game), was 1st in scoring defense in 2007 (10.7 points per game), and was 1st in total defense in 2007 (233 yards per game).

Sorry MGoBlog, nice try, but I'm calling BS on your argument.

Good analysis, interesting read, and all that ... but Ohio State is proof that one "disastrous" class can be overcome (and the Buckeyes' 2004 class, with the exception of Vernon Gholston, really wasn't much better than their 2003 class on the defensive side of the ball, so we had to overcome two clunkers in a row and still made it to the top).

DickRod's recruiting strategy, taking a lot of "projects" and a few "borderline" qualifiers on that side of the ball, is setting them up to go down the same road in the future. Put in the simplest of terms, he's in way over his head. If they're in such dire straits because of that poor 2005 class, shouldn't defense be a high priority not just last year, but this year as well? Sure doesn't seem to be the strategy.

As has been said, next year they lose Graham who is not just their best defensive player, but the heart and soul of the defense. Warren seems a likely candidate to go as well. Who replaces them? They have walk ons recieving playing time over scholorship players now. It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

The meltdown of the scUM boards has partially given way to dangerous extreme delusions. Every one of their boards has a thread saying "We will beat Ohio State," about how their defense will magically wake up for The Game and start performing and containing Pryor, about how their offense can hang with tOSU's defense, etc...

There are a few somber realists in the mix, but boy, I sure would like a hit of whatever the folks Up North are smoking!

It's 10:16 PM on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, and M*CH*G*N STILL SUCKS!!! :oh:
