2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

Michigan has yet to land a true defensive tackle this year and that worries me a little bit. They aren't picking up any linebackers and it seems the top guys in the country are looking else where.

Michigan's offense should take off in the next two years but the defense just doesn't seem to be there.

The good news is that Ohio and Michigan are going to have a lot of good players in the class of 11. Maybe Michigan can go to Ohio and convince a few to come up north and lock up the good ones out of Michigan.
I agree that the offense will continue to improve. Tater (if he can stay in one piece) looks like a very good QB. I'm still not sold on the WRs, but I do think Koger could end up being one of the best TEs in the country.

The thing is, even if the offense does take off, if you don't have at least a decent defense, there will be hiccups. They'll run into teams that can neutralize their offense. The defense just doesn't seem to be able to stop anybody outside of [censored]ty MAC teams. Even they get their yards. The DL depth is awful and he's not bringing in good enough talent to really alleviate that. I think Martin is a bull in the middle and Roh will be a player, but losing Graham next year is gonna hurt.

The LB play is still subpar and nothing really is coming in. As for the DBs, Warren looks better than last year, but still isn't becoming the shutdown guy most predicted. Cissoko looks completely overmatched. Turner may be a good one, but Warren may be gone before he's really ready. Safety play is still bad. I think Emilen and Robinson will eventually help there. But the front 7 looks bad with no real help on the horizon.

I don't know how far you can expect the offense to carry you. You can't win enough games in shootouts when you're in the Big Ten, especially when there will be physical defenses that can punch you in the mouth and neutralize that explosiveness.

Not to my knowledge.

Koger also played DE in high school (which is visibly labeled on his thread) and there was some talk that OSU was interested in bringing him in on defense. Michigan told him that he could choose to play on either side of the ball.

Michigan is so short on DL, and with Koger only getting a couple of touches a game on offense, you'd think that Tressel would find a place where he could have more impact on defense.

Koger had the athleticism but zero desire to play defense.
That and he's a tremendous weapon as a tight end. Probably their most reliable reciever at this point in the passing game. He's one of a handful of players on their roster I wish was on ours...Tater*, C. Brown, Minor, Graham, Moosman, Omemah probably the others.

So you list six players that you wish were ours. Fair enough. My return question is how many players are we redshirting this year would play A/O start at scuM

I think Whiting, Bell, Woods, Brown, Clarke, Bellamy would definately play on D as a position of need. RR would have to curb himself from turning Woods, Brown and Clarke into offensive players.

For that matter, Berry, Jackson and Fields would all be be playing and I believe Guiton would be playing with Tater's injury and Robinson's inability to throw a pass. IMHO

So basically everybody who isn't injured (too badly) and offensive linemen. However, I could believe the O-line would play too.

Once again, great to be a buckeye. Thank you RR. Thank you.

From O-Zone... The-Ozone, Ohio State Football, Wrestling, Softball, Basketball, Hockey, Baseball and More

Still Red (14)
RB Jaamal Berry ? Traveled to Indiana but did not play. Redshirting still 50-50.
OL Corey Linsley ? Listed in the two-deep at left guard until after Toledo game.
OL Jack Mewhort ? Listed in the two-deep at center until after Toledo game.
LB Jordan Whiting ? Scout team defensive player of the week, but likely to redshirt.
LB Dorian Bell ? Has seen some reps with the second team defense, but likely to redshirt.
QB Kenny Guiton ? Third string quarterback, likely to redshirt.
WR James Jackson ? Dangerous returner and deep threat, but likely to redshirt.
WR Chris Fields ? Recently compared to Santonio Holmes by coach Tressel, but still likely to redshirt.
OL Sam Longo ? Almost certain to redshirt
DT Adam Bellamy ? Scout team defensive player of the week, but almost certain to redshirt.
DE Melvin Fellows ? Injured, has not suited up for a game this season.
CB Corey Brown ? Likely to redshirt.

RB Jaamal Berry ? Traveled to Indiana but did not play. Redshirting still 50-50. Debatable whether he would crack their RB rotation.
OL Corey Linsley ? Listed in the two-deep at left guard until after Toledo game. Probable RS there too.
OL Jack Mewhort ? Listed in the two-deep at center until after Toledo game. Good shot at cracking their rotation, maybe starting with Moosman out.
LB Jordan Whiting ? Scout team defensive player of the week, but likely to redshirt. Would play/possibly start.
LB Dorian Bell ? Has seen some reps with the second team defense, but likely to redshirt. Would play/possibly start
QB Kenny Guiton ? Third string quarterback, likely to redshirt. Redshirt there too.
WR James Jackson ? Dangerous returner and deep threat, but likely to redshirt. Redshirt there too.
WR Chris Fields ? Recently compared to Santonio Holmes by coach Tressel, but still likely to redshirt. Redshirt there too.
OL Sam Longo ? Almost certain to redshirt redshirt there too.
DT Adam Bellamy ? Scout team defensive player of the week, but almost certain to redshirt. May crack DL rotation, but probably RS too.
DE Melvin Fellows ? Injured, has not suited up for a game this season. If healthy, would probably crack their rotation.
CB Corey Brown ? Likely to redshirt. Would likely crack their rotation/maybe start.
CB Dominic Clarke ? Likely to redshirt. Probably RS there too.
S Jamie Wood ? Likely to redshirt. Could possibly start there.
My opinions.

Who says it has to be a car? They can go off a cliff in an SUV just as easy, those fuckers hold 8.

My top 8 scUM alum's I would want to see in an SUV heading off a cliff:

Woodson
Ray
Howard
Kolesar
Manbitch
Dierdorf
Harbaugh (guarantee in '86)
Darden (time to face justice for what was clearly PI in '71)
If you can get Kevin Grady to drive the short bus, then you might just get your wish....

Anyone notice the difference in ridicule and coaching style when Robinson came off the field after the game-losing mistake, versus Tate's failed drives?

Iowa could not stop Denard on the ground. Bringing in Denard to throw the ball downfield in a critical situation like that is pretty strange.
