2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

Do you think UM beats Iowa?

Iowa is looking more impressive as the season goes on.

They beat Arizona by 10 - for Arizona's only loss.

They beat Iowa St by 32 - and Iowa St's only other loss was to Kans St by a point.

They beat PSU by 10 in a white out.

Sure, they struggled against Northern Iowa, but they are not only the only team to beat Northern Iowa, they are the only team to come closer than 28 points.

And the Ark St game was not nearly as close as the score indicates, even though it was sandwiched between PSU and UM on Iowa's schedule.

UM is somewhat the reverse.

They clobbered two directional schools who between them have wins over Hofstra and a Miami of Ohio team that hasn't beaten anybody.

They pulled one out against a ND team that has won only one game all year by more than a FG.

And they sneaked by an Indiana team that folks were only starting to believe in because they thought it meant something to stay with Michigan.

And all of those wins at home before losing to a struggling MSU.

Now you are going into Iowa City and play a team that hasn't beaten you since 2003 and smells blood?

Good luck.

RR made offensive recruiting and numbers a priority at UM. He needs to be scoring 35 ppg to compensate for the lack of depth and talent on D.
this is what I see

scUM has not proven at all this year that they can put together consistent sustained drives

they rely WAY to much on big plays

Michigan State was not allowing the HBs to burst outside for easy big gains and screen passes to bust for huge yards like the previous teams (with bad Ds) that they had played and they were pretty much fish out of water until the end

jwins synopsis of scUM is spot on. When I saw their Spring Game my first thought was; These guys (defense)stink and they will be in a lot of high scoring games. But, they are fun to watch, I'll give then that! :tongue2:

MGOBlog guy is saying they beat us....this year! Wonder if Forcier makes it to November? His arm is obviously hurt right now.

Tsun is going to be more athletic/talented than 90-95% of the teams they play.
Somewhat ironic that on the gridiron UM will be more athletic than most opponents, while in hoop they will be far less athletic based upon Beilein's history. Some form of Vulcan coaching mind meld seems to be warranted in AA.

early line is Iowa -7.5

scUM's first game vs a legit top 25 team on the road at night.

I'll take Iowa, lay the points and take my chances.

The way Iowa d-line tore up PSU's o-line and pressured Clark all night in Happy Valley, you'd have to think there's at least a decent chance that we'll be seeing UM qb's other than Tate on Saturday night.

Anyone see the E:60 piece on Elliot Mealer?

Pheew, crazy man. What a story...for anyone familiar with the story, I knew Hollis and her family, her cousin and I were actually good friends. Just a really incredible story.

He's the lone scUM player who makes feel a little awkward about hating them so much.......then I think of Mike Hart and I'm over it pretty quick.

All joking aside, I wish nothing but the best for the kid. That situation is just unreal.

Yeah, definite reality check...makes me sad he chose scUM over tOSU.

Like you said, I wish all the best for the kid, what a horrible thing to have happen on Christmas Eve, of all nights.

I remember reading/hearing about this when it happened. Very sad, indeed. Very glad to see the young man getting on with his life after such a tragic event.

Living in South Florida now, I am a very staunch believer that driving is a privilege and not a right, and that mandatory road tests should be given every year to people over a certain age in order to maintain that privilege.

About 9:35 pm on Christmas Eve 2007, a 90-year old man ran a stop sign, hitting the Mealers' car. Elliott's father and girlfriend were killed, and his brother Brock was severely injured.

His brother completed his undergraduate degree at tOSU, and is now in grad school and still going through a difficult rehab - after being told he would never walk again, he has been able to walk with braces and drive a car with hand-controlled pedals.

I grew up right near that intersection and I was on an intramural baseball team with Brock. It's fine to hate Michigan, but he's a good kid, who would have came to Ohio State in a second if we'd offered him, and he's obviously been through a lot.
