Looking at their schedule I can see another 3-9 but I agree, I have a hard time finding 8 wins.

I dont know if it's going to better or more of the same. IMO this team has a very fragile mindframe right now, another opening season loss and we could tank again. Hope i am wrong!

WMU only returns 3 starters on d. They lost 49-17 too rice in their bowl game, this is RR's second year we should beat them no excuses. Like I said... if we dont win I think the team will tank!

They also bring back their SR QB and beat Illinois and Toledo in back to back weeks last year. That has a lot more bearing on this game than what Rice did to them in a Bowl game.

WMU beat Illinois last season. Illlinois took you guys to the woodshed. With Hiller returning, it should definitely be a good game.

they also bring back 7 starters on offense

including their QB who threw for 3,725 yards and 36 TDs last season, a 1,000 yard rusher and 4 offensive line starters

sure Michigan may score on their defense, but is Michigan going to be able to stop Western Michigan?

Toledos defense was pretty god awful last year and they were able to hold you guys........

I could definitely see WMU putting up 30 points and this game being a shootout. WMU returns a very good quarterback, Tim Hiller, who was hurt at the end of last year which would be one reason they got thumped badly by Rice. Hiller is not a scrambler type, but is a great pocket passer and is easily one of the top two QB's in the MAC along with LeFevour and could get drafted next April. He's a much better QB than Toledo threw out there last year no question and is one of the best QB's Michigan will face all year. WMU also returns 4 of 5 starters on the offensive line, it's top running back, who rushed for over 1,000 yards last year, plus their 2nd and 3rd team backs. They did take some hits at receiver, top two returning players combined for just under 1,000 yards and 10 TD's, but with a solid line and great QB against a questionable secondary they're going to be able to throw the ball. I think this could be a highly entertaining and high scoring game.

Well said.

As far as the defense goes their weakness last year, and likely again this year, was against the pass...not the run. Their front 7 is supposed to be a strength of the team.

Their 4 losses were to Nebraska, CMU, Ball State and Rice. All 4 very good passing teams capable of doing a lot more than one could reasonably expect of a true freshman QB playing his first college football game.

WMU in week 1 is a bad matchup for tsun any way you slice it.

C.P. graduate Wermers leaves Michigan's football program for Ball State
Wermers said he didn't mesh with Michigan's new coaching staff, led by head coach Rich Rodriguez, who took over for the retired Lloyd Carr following the 2007 season.
"I really didn't get along with the new coaches," Wermers said. "They were bringing in a lot of different kids that were not my kind of crowd. Coach Carr's staff was a whole different ballgame. It was like a family. But when Rodriguez came in it was a whole different feeling. It was more of a business.
"I figured I'd get out while I could."
While Wermers wasn't happy with the Wolverines' new coaching staff, he noted he will have positive memories about his one year up north.
"It was fun, a great school and I loved my teammates," Wermers said. "But if I'm not happy every day that I wake up, why keep doing it?"

The bickering has been moved here:TSUN bickering

Hey Jwin, in the other thread you talked about Marvin Robinson at the LB/S spot. I thought he was safety all the way, for now at least. While he doesn't have that top end speed that you want, he's got great instincts. While I think he may end up at the hybrid spot because of his size/speed, I still think he starts out at safety, that is unless RR adds some more safeties in the class.

If Turner lines up at CB, and others don't pan out back there, I could see him playing safety, at least early on. Either way, he's a hybrid at best coming into UM. You never know how these guys will progress on and off the field once they enroll, but I think LB is unlikely early on.

I need to see Woolfolk & Emilien in action over the course of a season before I'm on that bandwagon (and I'm one that wishes he was still going to be a buckeye). The serious lack of production at the position over the years has me a little skeptical about whether Vlad is as good as advertised, or whether finally having a competent safety on roster is what has drawn such rave reviews.
