2009 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

If scout had a clue on Fields he would be top 100 as well...

I disagree with you there. I think he's a 4* and top 300 player but I wouldn't put him in the top 100. Whiting probably should though. Scout originally had him as the #3 MLB in the country but he's dropped like a rock since then for no apparent reason other than not attending their combines. Scout is really down on a lot of our prospects compared to Rivals.

Well they have him so low, and he is ranked at a combined 123 so I would think if they had him somewhere in the top 200 it would up his rating...closer to 100...

Remember that on the combined list anyone not in a top 100 list gets an arbitrary 150 as a place holder so don't put too much faith in the numbers beyond 100.

I'll have up a top 250 list up today using the number from the three services that currently have rankings =>250 (Rivals, Scout & Emfinger).

FWIW using the "total points" model (100pts for #1, 99 for #2, 0 for >100) Chris drops to 175. He only picks up top 100 points on two lists (Rivals & Emfinger).

Personally I can't wait for these kids' seasons to start so they can get their due. These services put way too much stock in their crappy combines early on to determine these kids' ability. They may be their only evaluation tool for now, but you can't accurately judge every kid's ability with them. Take John Simon for instance. They obviously felt good enough about him to put him in their early top 10's and 20's before expanding their rankings. Since then, he has plummeted because he hasn't been going to combines. Then Dorian Bell has actually gone to a couple combines, yet their steady dropping him on rivals, despite having great film. Once these kids starting playing again they won't be able to deny their potential and give our commits their credit.

OK last update for awhile (unless more data becomes available).

I've decided to just stick with the "total points" model. A player ranked #1 gets 100 pts, #2 - 99 and so on down the list. Those not ranked by a service get 0 pts rather than an arbitrary ranking of 150 (which I was using in the "average ranking" model). This method just feels a bit less arbitrary to me.

BuckeyeGrove.com - First look: 2009 team recruiting rankings

Rivals' first crack at the 2009 team rankings:

1. Ohio State

2009 total commits: 23
Headliner: Dorian Bell
The Buckeyes have assembled the nation's best class with one five-star commitment and 16 four-star pledges. They also have a whopping 23 commitments, the most in the nation. But the class isn't just about quantity. It's about quality. Five-star linebacker Dorian Bell is a major catch, as are Jamie Wood, Justin Green and C.J. Barnett.
2008 class rank: 4

#1 ain't bad

FYI scUM is at #4 and MSU is at #10

Agreed

It was my understanding that the same can be said about Vlad and him being very physical but maybe limited in coverage, but they have Vlad as having some of the best coverage skills...definitely a quantity over quality series IMO
