Their class breakdown for Ohio State is rather peculiar. 16 OSU verbals rate a 78-100, which qualify them in the E150 watch list. NOT among those are kids like Klein, Whiting, and Newsome.

If Scouts Inc thinks those three are the bottom of this class ... well ...

:bonk:

Here's another one, the 'Rivals Rank' on our commit list has Adam Homan, Zach Boren, and Duron Carter at the bottom of this class. e.g., According to Rivals, our worst incoming players are the brother of an All Big-10 C/G, brother of a consensus 4-star, top-15 LB from only 3-years ago, and the son of an eventual NFL Hall of Famer. Wow! Thank goodness the other kids inherited the genes to play football to get this classes ranking back up there!

Meh. So according to 'the experts' it appears the flaw in this class is all these 3-star LBs we're going after. You'd think this staff would learn after the terrible history they've had with all the other 3-star LBs they've gotten since '01! Those type kids never develop! :tongue2:

This Rivals' 3 star linebacker turned out pretty good.

Athlon Consensus 100 - AthlonSports.com

Athlon Sports has compiled the rankings of six of the top recruiting services available into one list of the Top 100 high school senior football prospects we're calling the Athlon Consensus 100. Each prospect is linked to his own profile page where you can learn more about his abilities and schools of interest.

The services they use are ESPN(not out yet), Rivals, Scout, PrepStar, Max Emfinger, and O-D(not sure who they are).

Of Note:

7. Dorian Bell
21. Shaq Evans
27. John Simon
30. Jaamal Berry
32. Marcus Hall
38. Melvin Fellows
40. Corey Adams
46. John Martinez
57. Chris Watt
62. Jamie Wood
64. Frankie Telfort
76. C.J. Barnett
79. Jordan Whiting

84. Justin Turner
89. Corey Brown
93. Chris Fields

It doesn't list Brown as a commit so I'm not sure when this was last updated.

Klein, Simon and Mewhort are ones that really stick out like a sore thumb with guys they are ranked behind...

Also I would take the top 3 in NC over probably any state...

Dante Moss, Jheranie Boyd, and Xavier Nixon...

Maybe Cali with Barkley, Wood, Evans? Not sure who #3 is off the top of my head...

And of those 3 NC guys only Moss has been given a fifth star. Seems like Rivals is pretty stingy with the fifth star to this point in general. It is generally assumed that Cali, Florida, and Texas produce the most football talent, but after that it is also often said that Ohio, PA, and Georgia are right there on their heels. Out of those three states, there is one 5 star to date, and that is Dorian Bell. Maybe it's just because it is still relatively early in the evaluation process?

Scout.com: Team Recruiting Rankings - The Top 15

By Scott Kennedy
Director of Scouting
Posted Jul 14, 2008

The recruiting process has always been a 12 month endeavor, but now more than ever, colleges are taking commitments from teams earlier and earlier in the process. Scott Kennedy, Director of Scouting for Scout.com, runs down the Top recruiting classes as they stand in July.

Continued...

#1 Ohio State

Ohio State has been one of the premiere teams in the country for several years now and with a defensive line class that includes Johnny Simon and Melvin Fellows, the Buckeyes could find themselves in the uncommon spot of having the No. 1 Class on Signing day...without a quarterback commitment.

THere will be more by the end of the season...They just wait longer to give out five stars, and they don't have a set number of player that get them, like Scout...

I like Jamie Wood don't get me wrong, but one thing that has been curious to me all recruiting season is how much Rivals likes him...Not sure you would see many people in Ohio that would rank Jamie Wood as the #1 player...This is not to discredit him tho as he is a very good player, just kinda one of those unexpected things...

Mewhort over Linsley based on upper ceiling?

Interesting point that you don't see brought up much.

The services really do tend to rank QBs higher overall in proportion to other position.

That's pretty consistent for them.

Rivals LOVES athletes. The big, strong fast kid will alway be ranked over the smaller more productive "football" player.

Year after year you'll see them project a defensive end much higher than anyone else because the player has crazy measureables.

Mewhort is going to be a MONSTER IMO. Legit size, good skill set, tireless worker.....

Agreed.

It's just that Linsley is a monster now. He's the brawler inside that will mess people up. If it came down to which one I would want in front of me right now it'd be Linsley.
