2009 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Yep and I just really like Mewhort. His film blew me away and his frame is spectacular. I feel he is already a solid player with good technique, but still has a lot of room to grow. He could get some serious PT quick imo. I also really like Linsley...he moves really well, is meaner than crap, and is a good sized boy. Honestly, I am stoked about this OL class, especially when we add Hall.

Btw CB40, Burfict is the #3 player, followed by Patrick Hall, who is amazing as well. I think NC is only behind CA in terms of top notch talent. I agree with you 100% on Wood...I think he is a great player, but I had 5 players ahead of him in Simon, Fellows, Barnett, Hall, and Klein. Wood showed up to all of the Rivals events and he showed well, which helped his cause a lot. I believe Simon, Fellows, Barnett, and Klein didn't show up to their combines, which really hurt them. I honestly think if Simon came, he would be a 5 star, being the physical freak he is. Fellows possibly as well. As far as Klein, he didn't show up to combines but mostly, he isn't a combine warrior anyways imo. He is a player that is amazing on film and is always going to show up on Friday nights with big plays. He will probably stay in the 150-200 range and absolutely blow up at OSU. Whiting and Bell get alot of the hoopla, deservingly so, but I personally think Klein could end up being the best on the field, though I'm VERY high on Bell.

Mewhort looked outstanding at the Cleveland Browns stadium camp. Better than Hall IMO. How they pan out long term is anyones guess.

Florida has the depth, but lacks the star power at the top this year...I would have the top 4 on the list as 5 stars, but after that you are looking at some solid 4 stars...Not that it is a horrible year, just down in terms of what is usually expected from Florida...

As for the 5 stars on Rivals, you are only looking at 24 guys right now...Some might question Evans and Carroll in terms of being in the top 24 as I don't have either quite that high, but they are legit players, and Carroll is a very good player...Won the 100M in Cali...

Scout is in the process of updating their rankings right now....oh and if it ends up being legit that Jordan Whiting was bumped all the way down to #362 overall on Scout I MIGHT throw up....:sick1:

it appears as such. jordan hall also dropped out of the top 300. adam homan got downgraded to 2*, and adam bellamy dropped 8 spots in the DT rankings.

Although, they did bump up both Clarke and Fields to 4*. I think everybody else dropped at least a few spots except Carter which went from #299 to #232. Even Hall and Berry dropped a little bit.

Until they show me otherwise, I will trust the coaches over the rankings... After all Malcolm jenkins was a 3 * and justin king (never lived up) and demitrius morley (Academic all-star of tenn.) were fivers... I'd bring up JL too but I can't really talk too much trash about Rey "Illegal head shots" Maualuga.
These new bucks will succeed regardless star rankings.

Agreed. I would only have McDaniel, DeBose, and Berry as 5 stars. Murray is borderline imo. Evans and Carroll are good, but not 5 stars imo, especially when you look at who is below them (DeBose, Boyd, etc.).

I have Trent Richardson higher than Berry and the one that I had as top 4...Not as high on Murray as some...

I think we have a few guys who are overrated in some of the Rivals and Scout rankings but we have even more guys who really seem underrated and it seems to coincide with when they committed.

Guys like Whiting and Simon would have had amazing offer lists and every scout would have been raving over them if they had waited to commit and gone to some camps. Bell deserves his hype. In other words, this LB class is going to be incredible. Since so many of these guys committed early, we tend to forget this position even though in my opinion it is the most star filled group in the class.

I like Mewhort a lot too and think he's underrated even though he seems to be moving up a bit. I'd take Mewhort over any of the guys we were or are recruiting this year on the OL.

Along with Mewhort on offense, I think James Jackson is a little bit underrated as well. He's my favorite of the skill position commits so far and think it may take him a couple years, but that in the long run he has great potential due to his speed. He is one of those rare guys whose legit track speed actually translates to the field.

ESPN - Five prospects vie for No. 1 spot in ESPN 150 - Football Recruiting

The initial ESPN 150 for football's Class of 2009 will be released in one week (on Aug. 5). And while the Scouts Inc. crew -- Craig Haubert, Billy Tucker, Bill Conley and I -- bunker down in Charlotte to review, debate and compile the rankings, we thought we would whet your appetite with the five outstanding prospects who could be No. 1.

Keep in mind that of the players we have graded and written reports on so far -- almost 2,000 prospects -- those who have graded out the highest to this point are all candidates. We are performing the final analysis as to who is going to make the cut for the entire ESPN 150, and it is safe to say the following not only have a case for the top 10 or top five but also for the No. 1 slot.

Based on junior film and the spring and summer evaluation period, we've made a case for and against each prospect's claim to the top spot. As always, grades and evaluations will certainly change between now and Aug. 5. The players below are in no particular order (other than alphabetical), so try not to read anything into the order in which they are presented.

Continued...

The five are Matt Barkley, Dre Kirkpatrick, Aaron Murray, Russell Shepard and Manti Te'o...
