2009 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

ESPN - USC jumps to No. 2; Rutgers, Vols enter top 10 - Insider

Even when our first edition of the top 10 classes came out in the first week of June, it was -- and still is -- extremely difficult to come up with a team ranking. Not every team plays with the same deck and number of commits vs. quality of commits can often skew these rankings at such an early juncture.

With that being said, Texas, who we are not convinced would be our No. 1 class in February (or even October for that matter), remains No. 1 at this stage for its combination of numbers and quality prospects. Ohio State has tremendous numbers and quality from the top through the middle of the class, but we still question some of the bottom of its class, and feel Texas' is stronger top-to-bottom. Nonetheless, it has continued to add good players while LSU and Georgia have slowed their paces somewhat, so OSU has elevated above Georgia and LSU.

We feel there will be a ranking tug-o-war between LSU, Georgia and OSU all the way to February and remember, numbers do not mean everything.

3. Ohio State
25 verbal commitments
The number of commits is pretty impressive and so are the top six or seven players. Looks like the Buckeyes' coaching staff can now spend their time sewing things up, while focusing on the 2010 class and making sure these birds don't fly the coop over the next several months.

How can you say "top six OR seven players"????

Is the seventh player maybe impressive, maybe not? Do they not know?

And SURELY the eighth player isn't impressive..After six (or should I say seven???) there is clearly a huge drop off, I'm sure.
Their class breakdown for Ohio State is rather peculiar. 16 OSU verbals rate a 78-100, which qualify them in the E150 watch list. NOT among those are kids like Klein, Whiting, and Newsome.

If Scouts Inc thinks those three are the bottom of this class ... well ...

:bonk:

Here's another one, the 'Rivals Rank' on our commit list has Adam Homan, Zach Boren, and Duron Carter at the bottom of this class. e.g., According to Rivals, our worst incoming players are the brother of an All Big-10 C/G, brother of a consensus 4-star, top-15 LB from only 3-years ago, and the son of an eventual NFL Hall of Famer. Wow! Thank goodness the other kids inherited the genes to play football to get this classes ranking back up there!

Meh. So according to 'the experts' it appears the flaw in this class is all these 3-star LBs we're going after. You'd think this staff would learn after the terrible history they've had with all the other 3-star LBs they've gotten since '01! Those type kids never develop! :tongue2:

What a joke. Sure, USC may have a better class than us when it's all said and done, but to pretend like they do right now is just silly. All 15 of USC's guys are espn 150 watchlist players. We have 16 such players, plus 8 more recruits. Guess we have 17 or 18 guys who aren't impressive, even though half of that unimpressive group is on the 150 watchlist.

Also, for the guys that are not yet given a grade, just listed as watchlist, are they listed in order of how espn has them ranked right now? Because if that is the case, espn has Jack as our #2 recruit. (Bell is listed first for us, Wood first for ND, and Barkley first for USC, all of whom are considered to be their teams best recruit, that is why I wonder).
