So which is it skunkbear fan: Barwis isn't the S&C messiah he was portrayed to be as evidenced by the game stats listed above, or DickWad isn't the coaching messiah he was portrayed to be as evidenced by the game stats listed above.

I simply cannot understand why this has to be an "eiither/or" proposition.

Exactly. UM fans, I am sure, will find a way to blame their second half failures late in the season on Lloyd Carr. There's no way this could be attributable to Barwis or RR not living up to expectations. That's just not something that can even be considered. :roll2:

It was all Shafer's fault. Now that DickRod can get a 3-3-5 guy all scUM's problems will go away. Just look at buckiprof's list. They got outscored in all those second halves. If the defense could just shut the other teams out DickRod wouldn't be having trouble outscoring them. And since even DickRod's mighty offense can be shut out for a half, it should be simple to shut out all those lesser offenses being run by the rest of the big10.

Running back McGuffie leaves Michigan, visits Rice

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Running back Sam McGuffie is leaving Michigan after one season and has visited Rice, speaking at length with Owls coach David Bailiff.
McGuffie tells KRIV-TV in Houston he'll decide where he'll go "in the next couple of days" and says he wants to play close to his Texas home. He says he's considering Rice, Houston and Texas A&M.
He says he visited Texas A&M on Wednesday and Rice on Thursday.
McGuffie ran for 486 yards and three touchdowns as a Wolverines freshman, second on the team.
NCAA rules require McGuffie to sit out one season after transferring.

Actually I believe DickRod is looking for a DC who can not only get the defense to pitch a shutout in the second half but also score, since it's quite likely his offense won't, except by accident.

Sounds from Shafer's comments that the departure was more due to philosophical differences than the defense's performance. When I see the first and half scoring records, that seems like a defense that is getting worn down from being on the field too much. And without a whole lot of depth, that's going to happen. I think their first half performance suggests the defense played pretty well until they got beat down.

Has to be true. RR wanted him to have a defense that gave up no points a game with the players RR gave him and Shafer couldn't. :bonk:

Over on the scUM forums, there's this quote about Newsome on the Wolverines... "We will not lose to Michigan while I'm at Penn State."

Granted, scUM's owned State Penn the past decade or so, but if he does back it up, it'll be hillarious.
