2008 Heisman Trophy Discussion

Brutus1;1355138; said:
Who the hell cares if Tebow won't be a good NFL qb? He's a great college qb, as are the other two. Tebow lost it because he already won it last year. That, and losing to Ole Miss. His numbers, while good, were being compared to last years. Those three things put him outt of the running.

The Heisman usually goes to the guy with the best numbers AND plays on a great team or the best player (qb or rb) on the best team.

I've got not problem if any of the three won it. There was a case to be made for each player.

My only beef is that at the very least, Graham Harrell should have been invited. That was bull[censored].
Let Bradford take the Heisman. I'm sure Tebow will glady take the Crystal Trophy.

I have to agree with this. I really do believe Tim Tebow was probably the most deserving player to win the Heisman (he missed out becoz he won it last year). He is without a doubt the best college QB in the country and perhaps the best player of the last decade at this level...and it is scary to think that he is only a junior. He may not go on to be a top performer in the NFL but there is no doubting his ability at the college level.

Bob Stoops is a good football coach, but I don't like the fact that he doesn't have any problems with running the scores up on opponents....something most coaches would never do. Bradford used that to his advantage to pad his stats against some very poor defenses.

My top 3 Heisman ballot based on who was invited to New York would read....

1. Tim Tebow
2. Colt Mcoy
3. Sam Bradford

BTW, I don't think Okhlahoma have much of chance against Florida in the NC game.

How many points are b12 defenses worth?

How often has Bradford even been tested this year? I don't mean asked to put up monster numbers, I mean rattled, pressured, facing adversity. Life is extremely cushy for Bradford, sitting back there for 4-6 seconds, dumping off a dozen passes in the flats to matchup nightmares, throwing into woeful coverage units.

...er, he set a record for the most TD passes over 50 yards...

I just don't get the disrespect that Bradford is getting here.

I agree, and I don't understand why it seems that some have a personal grudge against Sam. Can't blame him for accepting the damn award.

It was late on a Saturday night, and perhaps that explains the nature of this post. But calling Bradford names, when there's no reason that I know of to do so, simply detracts from your support of McCoy, and degrades the level of the discussion.

The name calling was perhaps going a little too far, but I'm not going to respect the player or the coach or the program that drop hail marys in the final seconds when they are up by a gzillion. It's simply garbage. And for these Heisman voters to cast their ballots based on staggering numbers without taking a look at where these numbers came from is simply laziness and ignorance. I thought Heismans were supposed to make Heisman plays, yet I can't think of one clutch play that Bradford has made in adversity. I'll say this again, if we choose to ignore the lack of "Heisman" moments, or losing the big game to your arch rival, and base almost everything on garbage time stats, then the guy at Texas Tech should win it every single year.

McCoy and Texas got screwed twice with Oklahoma benefitting both times.

Exactly. If you want to know who's really getting disrespected, talk to McCoy and UT, who are sitting at home despite beating the team who's going to the title game and has the same record.

4400 yards and 48 TDs. those kind of numbers get you the MVP in the NFL.
They actually pressure the qb and cover in the nfl. But you're on an empty statistic kick today :p (acc thread)

Listen to the sportscenter highlight reel last night for Bradford, it was filled with lines like all day to throw.

Congrats to Sam, I would've voted for McCoy, but that doesn't mean Sam didn't have a great year. He's a good QB, and he seems like a good kid.
I don't understand the personal grudge most have against Tebow. He didn't ask for all the media coverage either. It's embarrassing and comes off as sour grapes from tOSU fans. Dude is a good kid and a phenominal college football player. If he played for tOSU, we'd be labeling him a football messiah too.

Or how much Tegay will make as a third round pick. Slowest delivery in college football.
Again, embarrassing. Tegay? What, are we in the 6th grade? And guess what? As a 3rd round pick, he'll still make millions more than most of us will ever sniff.

No. He has a cannon for an arm. Maybe you are talking about his release, which they have been working on this year as it is not as quick as it should be, and the only "weak spot" you could find in his overall package as a quarterback. But "slowest in college football"? Please. You only prove you don't watch much college football with that comment.

"Tegay"?? Come back when you have something to discuss other than infantile, non-original slams on a two time Heisman finalist.

Totally agreed!! UT lost to Tech (who at the time was in the top 5) on the LAST play of the game. Beat OUs ass in Dallas and UF lost to OLE MISS in GAINESVILLE, yes UF beat Alabama but who in the hell did Alabama play this year???? (Tulane, W. Kentucky, Arkansas State, Clemson....)......just shows you that the media blows the SEC all the time...IMHO have the two BEST teams play for the natinal chamionship UT and OU....

This argument about two conference teams having a rematch being better than a non-worthy Gator team is vaguely familiar.

My opinion.

Tebow didn't do enough this year to be in the frame.

No Buckeye did enough to be in the frame this year.

McCoy, Bradford, and Harrell all played against some pretty weak Big 12 defenses but McCoy and Bradford deserved to be in the frame.

I would have voted for McCoy over Bradford and both of them over Tebow.

However, given that no Buckeye won or deserved to win and was deprived of the award, I can't imagine why Buckeye fans are arguing over the award.

Because things do exist outside of Columbus. Probably the same reason you have a pretty detailed opinion on the matter

think tebow is probably the best football player of the 3 but i'm kind of glad he didn't win it. don't think i could handle another sermon from the bible beater. on the other hand, it's a shame to see a player get rewarded for putting up big numbers in the new WAC.
