2008 Heisman Trophy Discussion

Once again....Just for you

October 11
Colt McCoy
McCoy28/35 277 yards 1td 0int

Bradford28/39 387 yards 5tds 2ints

If Bradford would have stopped Colt's passing,by playing DB in the fourth quarter, then he could have done a little more that game.

Random facts...Keep in mind Bradford has done great things since day 1.

Sam Bradford - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'll let OU's BCS record speak for itself.

I can understand them getting blown out by SC even though they had what sports writers at the time believed were the three best players ever to play at their respective positions in White, AP and Clayton, I don't understand why they could not even being to hang with WV, a team that posed no threat in the passing game and starte athletes on defense that got passed by the Purdues and Indianas of the world. The same praises you lavish now on Bradford and OU could have been said last year as well, and if I'm not mistaken they even beat UT last year.

It blows my mind that you are not only an apologist for B12 offenses, which haven't showed up yet against any quality OOC opponents, but also for their atrocious defensives that have been hammered into oblivion again and again. I'm going to keep silent about this til after the title game. I'll come back to this thread when it's time.

You are acting like a stereotypical sports writer on espn, when talking about Ohio State the past two years in the national title game. It sounds a lot like Mark May actually. Why does the performance in one game discredit any accomplishment the team had the entire year. Teams very year to year. I love how people will stereotype a qb with failure immediatley at a school like Oklahoma because of their team failures in the past.

You might want to take a look at Steve Slaton in the NFL right now or Pat White still at WVU. That style of offense could have gashed anyone at any time.Sure it didn't happen every game, but their offense was very strong. How many teams in the Big 12 had that running style?Do you not believe anything can happen in a bowl game? Does the favorite always win every game?

I thought high of Bradford last year as well. Why shouldn't I? He is a great player, and their offense is fun to watch. If florida beat Oklahoma does that prove Oklahoma was as big as joke as you try to make them out to be? I'm not sure exactly how much that proves. In that case if Tebow happened to get hurt, and John Brantley (backup) comes in..Throws 4 td's and wins the game, that obvoiusly would prove he deserved the heisman over Sam Bradford as well.

It blows my mind that you are not only an apologist for B12 offenses, which haven't showed up yet against any quality OOC opponents, but also for their atrocious defensives that have been hammered into oblivion again and again. I am not willing to piss on an entire conference as a whole just because they score a lot of points.

What about every defensive statistical category ranking outside of Texas' defense?

I realize that we are pretty much debating a question that can't be answered until the bowls are done and it is seen how they match up against OOC teams and such, but you believe it has more to do with the stockpile of offensive talent than the lack of defensive talent, correct?

I have a hard time believing that an entire conference doesn't have any defensive talent. Especially a major one. It's also hard to believe the stronger schools in the conference quit recruiting defensive studs years ago so it just worked out perfectly for this year for every team in the big 12 to not have a defense. Of course there are bad defenses EVERY conference has them. Every conference doesn't have monster numbers by several different qb's though.

But it's perfectly reasonable to believe that every team in the conference is THAT good on offense?

There are people that believe the entire SEC has "SEC speed"..I don't believe being in the same regional area of a few good teams with similar characteristics means anything.

Do you believe that recruiting worked out perfectly for every big 12 defense to be horrible just for this year? Is it really harder to believe that there are some good qb's in one conference, more so, then believing every defensive player isn't worth a damn?

They actually pressure the qb and cover in the nfl. But you're on an empty statistic kick today :p (acc thread)

Listen to the sportscenter highlight reel last night for Bradford, it was filled with lines like all day to throw.

and Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Tom Brady didn't have all day to throw? shit, Eli Manning only got sacked 29 times all last year. Brady only got sacked 21 times.

I have no doubt you have more personal experience in heisman voting, then any of the members that have voted countless times year after year. Also the criteria for judging a player should be swayed by what the popular vote thinks, instead of a former heisman winner with on-field experience. You would think winning the heisman would entitle to your own opinion on the matter..).

er, how many guys have actually won the Heisman, because there are 900+ voters. pretty sure former winners are a very small slice of the pie.

I fully believe that the B12 has some very good QB's this year, and I'm not saying, not even a little bit that the ONLY reason for the offensive explosion this year in the Big 12 is due solely to poor defense. What I AM saying is your telling me poor defense is an illogical leap on my part, while claiming that the only valid reason is for the B12 offenses to be THAT good. You're making the same exact leap you are accusing me of making, while telling me I'm not allowed to make that leap.

Their OOC records seem to bear that out.

I guess we'll see. I don't believe Mizzou throwing up 45 on Illinois proves a damn thing. That's me tho.
