2008 Heisman Trophy Discussion

first year I can remember where all of the finalists in New York would have been good choices. Every one of these guys had a good case.

I was rooting against Tebow to keep Archie's club safe, so I'm happy, but Tebow had a great year.

If I had a vote I think I would have gone with McCoy as well. Just a really close contest.

Numerous people have mentioned the various candidates meaning more to their team. This is not the MVP. It is the Heisman. The award is supposed to be for the best college football player. Most are in agreement it is annoying when these awards become a popularity contest and not about production on the field (see Orakpo/Maualuga). By turning this into an argument of who means more to their team it is pandering to this same motion we all complain about. Make it about who produced and you can make an argument for any of the three depending on which stats you consider most important. I don't deny Teabag is a great college football player. I also don't doubt his character. I'm sure he's a good guy. But this isn't the nice guy who's good at circumcising Philipoeno kids award. Sam had a great year as did Teabag. Tim did not outproduce Sam statistically. The voters actually got this one right, and I am glad.

Uh except McCoy did more with less at Texas. Bradford is a piece of [censored] that just sits in the pocket, drops bombs over crappy teams in the final seconds, and loses to the rival, which happened to have been led by McCoy. He's going to get his a## beat good by Florida, and deservingly so.

I agree but that's another argument. I think what you're getting at is Sam has been beaten head to head by Colt and you're expecting him to be beaten by Tim. This goes back to our discussion the other day about how they shouldn't give it out til after the NC. Again I agree but that's another argument. You cannot look at the body of work SO FAR and say Sam wasn't Heisman worthy.

No I'm saying he's been beaten by Colt, and they both have similar numbers but Colt has been doing it with less talent. Bradford's numbers get him to the show, but if you are going to give someone the trophy based on numbers, then it seems to me that the trophy would no doubt belong to the QB at TT every single year.

Only if you feel that QB is the best college football player. That's what the award is for. Not the best at doing stuff with less talent award. If those two distinctions happen to be the same person, then so be it. You can take numerous things into consideration: stats, who they played, etc. My original argument (which I think has been forgotten here) is that it is not (or shouldn't be) a popularity contest. You can't honestly say the talent difference b/w Texas and Oklahoma is so vast that Colt is a clearcut winner. You said it yourself, Texas beat Oklahoma. Many feel Texas should be in the NC and Oklahoma is going to get stomped. That pretty much shreds your talent argument. Colt's a fine player. I would have voted him higher than Tebow personally based on his body of work. I was also hoping he'd win (heisman jinx ) but Sam is very deserving.

Why don't you just admit you dislike Bradford, and regardless of what information is presented to you it wouldn't matter. If your case is for McCoy then so be it,but the stats of that game don't really favor McCoy by the longshot you seem to make it out to be. Throwing 5td's compared to Mccoys 1? So McCoy lead his team to triumph over OU. Graham Harrell lead his team to beat Texas, and threw for 450+yards.

You can "lead" a team, but you are only one player.McCoy doesn't run the defense, and neither does Bradford. If you are going to give the heisman to the best leader, then it's Tebow.Head to head..um yea McCoy "won"

Was Bradford running up his stats against Texas while losing?

October 11
Colt McCoy
McCoy28/35 277 yards 1td 0int

Bradford28/39 387 yards 5tds 2ints

Yeah Sam!! :banger:
Have lots of chicken at banquets. Gain some pounds. You are GREAT!! Everybody says so.

Think about who should be your agent, and how much money you are gong to make after the Florida game.

Or how much Tegay will make as a third round pick. Slowest delivery in college football.

McCoy and Texas got screwed twice with Oklahoma benefitting both times.

Totally agreed!! UT lost to Tech (who at the time was in the top 5) on the LAST play of the game. Beat OUs ass in Dallas and UF lost to OLE MISS in GAINESVILLE, yes UF beat Alabama but who in the hell did Alabama play this year???? (Tulane, W. Kentucky, Arkansas State, Clemson....)......just shows you that the media blows the SEC all the time...IMHO have the two BEST teams play for the natinal chamionship UT and OU....
