Inside the Beat: Defense will be the difference in The Game

Last year in The Game, Beanie Wells rushed for 222 yards, a record for an Ohio State player against Michigan.
It was just another day in paradise Saturday in Champaign: cold and windy, pretty much the reason so many Ohio State alums e-mail us from Florida this time of year. Speaking of e-mails, there weren't nearly as many angry missives flooding our inboxes after the Buckeyes' 30-20 victory over Illinois. Maybe it was the old-school style of winning (305 yards rushing), or maybe it's because after that stumble against Penn State, OSU is back on track, shooting for a share of the Big Ten title and a possible Rose Bowl berth heading into Michigan week. We take a closer look:
GORDON: Tim, we've dumped so much on the offensive line this season (and deservedly so), I was glad to see you gave that group some credit in your OSU Insider in today's Dispatch. The Illini defense is not the Rock of Gibralter, but it's not Youngstown State, either, and the fact that both Chris "Beanie" Wells and Terrelle Pryor gained 100 yards rushing and Pryor was not sacked is pretty impressive. Of course, some of that is because Pryor threw the ball only 10 times and was able to pull it down and run other times. But hey, now the challenge for the line is to do something it hasn't done before: Put together back-to-back good games.
