2008 Football Rumblings

Dispatch

Thankful for the memories
Cherished experiences while at Ohio State will help seniors in future walks of life
Friday, November 21, 2008 5:03 AM

Nader Abdallah

Defensive tackle

Metairie, La. | Age: 23

Parting thought: "Ohio State has done everything for me. It was the biggest blessing ever. It was fate, really. Before I came here I was working in my dad's store in New Orleans. Of course, I wouldn't be working there now, because Hurricane Katrina wiped us out. All of that, as I sit here today, it seems like it was meant to be. I came in here a boy and I am leaving as a man, knowing about responsibility, and discipline, and close friendships."
Todd Boeckman

Quarterback

St. Henry, Ohio | Age: 24

Parting thought: "Outside of football, it is graduating -- that is an accomplishment that makes everything else worth it. You go to school for all those years and that is the pinnacle. I don't think I will ever forget that feeling. And I am so proud to be a graduate of Ohio State. That, along with my football experiences, is something I could not trade for anything."
Alex Boone

Offensive tackle

Lakewood, Ohio | Age: 21

Parting thought on whether he regrets not leaving early for the NFL: "Never. If I lived in regret I would be an unhappy person right now. I'm happy about my decision. If I had left, I would have felt like I let this team down, and that's just one of the things I can't do. I'm a very emotional person. I love these guys. ... It has been an honor, privilege and a crazy and good time. It has been a thrill ride of a lifetime and something I will never forget."

OSU Insider: Seniors have a chance to go undefeated against Michigan

Chuck Crow/The Plain DealerTwenty-five Buckeye seniors including linebacker James Laurinaitis have a chance to go undefeated against Michigan with a win on Saturday.

COLUMBUS -- There's an aspect of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry that many Buckeyes are in danger of never experiencing. Twenty-five seniors who will take the field against the Wolverines on Saturday never having suffered the devastation of losing in this rivalry.
Won't that leave a hole in their careers?
"No way. No. That would be. . . . no," OSU senior linebacker James Laurinaitis said.
"I wouldn't want to know," senior cornerback Malcolm Jenkins said. "If I want to know, I can go and ask somebody from one of the teams that lost to Michigan. I personally don't want to experience that. I want to look back at my four years and say that I've never lost."

Saturday: Ohio State 42, Michigan 7
25 words or fewer

Jim Tressel's dominance in The Game (7-1) not only has boosted Ohio State pride, it's made even the elitist of Michigan fans care/despair again.
In the BCS

While Alabama stayed No. 1, Texas jumped to No. 2 after previous No. 2 Texas Tech was thumped 65-21 by Oklahoma. The pairing for the national championship game is going to be decided by the Southeastern and Big 12 title games Dec. 6. Ohio State stayed No. 10, but did you really expect a significant bump after a 42-7 win over a team that also lost to Toledo and Notre Dame?
What's hot?

The Ohio State offensive line. After an awkward first three quarters of the season, it needed an ego boost, and in the past two games the group got it. Against Michigan's stellar front four, the key was to chip away at the cracks to get Chris "Beanie" Wells and Daniel Herron to the second level. When the breaches opened, the results were spectacular, as OSU rushed for 232 yards. That made it 537 rushing yards combined against Illinois and Michigan.

OSU seniors are special
4 Big Ten titles, sweep of Michigan will be hard to duplicate

COLUMBUS - It takes a long time to carve out a legacy - something like the painstaking construction of a large monument, one block of stone at a time. For Ohio State's senior class, there is just one piece left to put in place, and its legacy will be completed.

"You never really think much about it, until you get to this point, until you're where you can see the end of the line," OSU senior defensive tackle Nader Abdallah said late Saturday afternoon, in the moments after the Buckeyes (10-2) had pounded rival Michigan for a fifth straight time, further enhancing what is already a historic run.

While the Ohio State senior class nears the completion of its legacy, the OSU underclassmen know their role has also been a vital one.

I haven't really paid attention to the PAC-10 this year. Anyone in the know...can the Ducks win on the road against the Beavers? Doesn't appear that they have a defense, but then again, besides USC who does out there?

Just curious if I should get my BCS hopes up or not. :)

I think it mostly depends on whether 'Quizz Rogers plays. He has a bum shoulder and sat out a majoriy of the game against Arizona.

Neither team has much of a defense but outside of USC nobody in the Pac-10 does. I have to give Oregon St. the slight edge since there playing at home but Oregon has a good offense and can defiently pull this one out. Also like the previous post says it depends if the RB rogers plays and i beleive there still playing with there 2nd string QB who plays eratic at times. So with that said i think Oregon will when in a close game and we will be in a BCS bowl.:oh::io:

The Civil War is a hard fought game between two teams and fan bases that really dislike each other. Much like "The Game" records can be thrown out the window. Last year was the first time in a decade that the Away team won. Both teams are playing with back ups at key positions. To sum it up: Oregon State has exceeded expectations this year, and they are playing strong towards the end (as is usual). The Ducks have underachieved.

Personally, I think Riley leads his team (the Beavers) to victory over the Ducks.

Oregon State wins and they in the PAC 10, correct? Then we have a PSU - Oregon State re-match in the Rose Bowl.

That means that more than likely USC will bump Ohio State for an at large bid, correct?

Just want to make sure I have my facts straight.

We are rooting for the Ducks, correct?

EDIT NM, I saw the other thread.

I know I should probably want to see PSU win the Rose Bowl to represent the Big 10, but playing the other OSU and not USC just seems like that proves very little.

I understand this sentiment as well as all the others that show disdain for Penn State v Oregon State 2.0; however, there are a couple things to point out:

1) The Beavers are not the same team as the one that got throttled in State College. They are playing with poise, emotion, and a good all-around showing.
2) Mike Riley (Beavers coach) is undefeated (4-0) in bowl games at Oregon State.
3) This would be played with a more even crowd.
4) The Nits don't tend to play as well away as at home.

I'm not saying that Oregon State would win; however, the chances are much greater.

On top of all this one of the toughest things to do in football is beat a team more than once in the same season. Especially on the high school and college level.
