2008 Football Rumblings

Purdiue ripped them up! Not saying Pryor is equal to the Purdue running QB, but it does provide hope. :tongue2:

No doubt...but given what we know about JT and given Purdue's passing threats compared to those of Pryor's, is that a valid comparison?

Just fueling discussion here...

I'm not sure if this should go here or not, so mods, please move if necessary. I noticed in Grad's summary that Coach Johnson praised Zach and Orhian so I'm assuming they're practicing as DB's. Do we have any former h/s qb's (Orhian, Grant, Zach, etc.)taking any reps at qb in practice in the event that Bauserman does transfer next year? I've read that we may be getting back in the recruitment of a couple of qb's, and I know the coaches know what's going to happen next year better than I. I was just wondering who might be the backup to TP next year if Joe is gone.

BN$--Coaches Quotebook: Why Lack Of Catches For OSU's Tight Ends?

Coach Peterson discusses the role of the TE in tOSU's scheme, Coach Johnson praises Kurt Coleman, Zach Domicone and Orhian Johnson, and a little about Shugarts' return to action.

Interesting read...especially the bit about TEs. Kinda confirms that 'we are what we are' when it comes to TEs and diminishes the oft-cited recruiting theory that play calling would be different if the players we landed were more "receiving" types.

Possibly. However, the 33 is neutralized with double TEs...it almost always forces a personnel change to bring in another DL. That means more power running game and less spread the field...but it also could lead to more playaction, rollouts, etc, which plays right into your idea.

Personnel choices will be interesting for sure.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at - that in a 3-3 stack they would have to overcommit to stop Beanie on power plays, which opens it up for Pryor to gash them.
I would be amazed if they were not in a 4-3 as their base against us. I would be amazed if we were in alot of spread formations against them, except in the red zone or their half of the field.
I think with our O-line, the best thing we run are power plays and sprint draws, and going roll-out and play-action off of that. Throw in the sprint option plays and the four wides sets to keep them off balance.

Their DBs are terrible tacklers, and if either Pryor or Beanie get into that level, watch out.

Wild-dog tenacity working for OSU
Defensive linemen have responded to challenge

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/podcasts/buckeyextra/xtra028.html

In regards to the upsurge in sic 'em play by the Ohio State defensive line, there's no question who let the dogs out. "Malcolm Jenkins challenged us a few weeks ago to just let it loose and start playing like dogs, like wild dogs," defensive tackle Nader Abdallah said.
Jenkins is a senior cornerback, but as a co-captain he knew the entire defense would benefit from more aggressive play by the men up front. Safety Kurt Coleman said the front four -- really a rotation of seven or eight players -- responded, and not just to Jenkins' urging.
"A lot of people were telling them they couldn't do it, or they weren't good enough, or they needed to get better," Coleman said. "I think that got to them."
The defensive line will need a similar mind-set Saturday, Abdallah said, when Ohio State plays at Northwestern.
It will be facing a spread offense that one series might feature a quarterback who can pass in C.J. Bacher and in the next series might use Mike Kafka, who last week set a Big Ten record for rushing yards by a quarterback (217) in a win over Minnesota.

Ohio state football: There was a catch

Saturday, November 15, 2008 1:47 AM EST
By Jason Lloyd Journal Register News Service

This isn't how it was supposed to end, not for a pair of veteran wide receivers who combined for 107 receptions, 1,629 yards and 17 touchdown catches last season.

Brian Robiskie briefly flirted with the idea of turning pro after his junior season ended with 935 yards and 11 touchdowns. That was never a serious thought for Brian Hartline, who needed the extra playing time to boost his draft stock and solidify his place as a legitimate NFL prospect.

Now you need a search warrant to find him.
