2008 Football Rumblings

Who the Fuck is Jon Spencer and why does anyone care what some hack from the Mansfield Fucking Journal has to say?

Cripes, sometimes I cringe b/c the internet has given people who merit NO audience a limitless one.

I am thankful for:
- another Big Ten Championship for OSU
- a 42-7 bitchslap which may have RichRod working at Chipotle or landscaping by winter 2010
- James Patrick Tressel (who happens to be a fraternity brother of mine...sort of...we are both ATOs - he was in the 1970s and I was in the 1990s)
- the Ducks being 17-1 after a bye week (beat the Beavs!)
- Buckeye Planet
- my family
- turkey fryers.

See, Jon? Buckeye Nation has shit to be thankful for. As Buckyle might put it, shove a shiv up your ace.

Ohio State football
Buckeyes remain a work in progress
Unfulfilled season produced plenty of talking points

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

From the crash at Southern California to getting pushed against the wall by Penn State, Ohio State did not race clean through the 2008 season as some expected.
Even after the USC loss dented the Buckeyes' chances of making the national championship game for the third straight year, they were still expected to rule over the Big Ten as they sought an unprecedented third straight outright title.
Instead, a 13-6 loss to Penn State caused them to have to fight for what amounted to the lesser share of a fourth straight conference championship, which they finally secured with their record fifth straight win over Michigan a week ago.
"We just went to work after (the Penn State) game, just like we do after every game," coach Jim Tressel said. "Those 28 seniors, they're good character guys, and they weren't going to let anyone think they had given up on anything. So they led us, and continue to lead us, and hopefully we'll keep getting better."

Busy offseason for Buckeyes
Top national awards could land in hands of team's stars
By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER
COLUMBUS - When the current football season started, many in the Ohio State camp thought by this time on the calendar, running back Chris "Beanie" Wells would be picking out some fine threads to wear to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York. He was expected to be the headliner of the Buckeyes' parade when the 2008 awards were passed out. The reservation for Wells at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Park Avenue likely got canceled when he planted his foot to make a lateral cut near the goal line in the first game of the season and felt something pop. The 6-1, 240-pound junior missed three games with a foot injury and fell off the awards radar. But as the season comes to a close and the bowl shuffle becomes vertigo-inducing, several of Wells' teammates are still in contention for national honors. Linebacker James Laurinaitis, defensive back Malcolm Jenkins, receiver Brian Robiskie and injured walk-on Tyson Gentry are candidates for prestigious awards. Laurinaitis, already a two-time All-American and the Big Ten's two-time defensive player of the year, is a finalist for the Lombardi Award, which goes to the player who best exemplifies the discipline of former coaching great Vince Lombardi, along with outstanding performance and ability. The 6-3, 240-pound senior from Minnesota is also a semifinalist for the Walter Camp player of the year honor.

I would prefer to play in the Capital One Bowl and beat a Georgia team that was previously ranked #1. Beating SEC teams has to start somewhere. Terrell is going to have to score 65 plus points to beat Texas. The potential Texas matchup will only serve as sweet revenge for Bobby Hill, aka Colt McCoy.

Why do all my brethren prefer to keep wearing blinders when it comes to our Buckeye defense?

Texas scored, what, 45 against Oklahoma, and they're going to score at least 65 against us?

While I can be found saying that I wanted Georgia (I no longer want them after their loss to GaTech), if you think there is a team out there that can put 65 on our defense, you're insane.

I completely understand your concern about our defense. I share it. But 65? Are you fucking serious? Give them some credit.. we're better than any of the top defenses in the Big 12, and that's a fact..

Well, if Bama beats us you can play the [censored]ed off Gators with a healthy Percy in N'Awlins for a rematch. We'll get Northshorebuck to scout out the bar that will be BP headquarters. :banger:

:shake:

If that happened, you know you'd want to drink with your BP buddies. :tongue2:

:oh:?

Not gonna lie gator, I don't want to play you guys, not because I don't think the Bucks couldn't give a decent effort, but just because I'd rather finish off the penial perfecta, Dick Rod and Nick "the Prick" Saban

OSU Football: Lucas grad pumps up Buckeyes

By JON SPENCER ? News Journal ? December 9, 2008

COLUMBUS -- Rhen Vail has lifted a lot of weights over the last few years, but none with more passion than the Big Ten Championship trophy he hoisted in the Ohio State locker room last month.

The OSU sophomore from Lucas found himself in the center of the celebration after the Buckeyes waxed Michigan 42-7 for a share of their fourth straight conference football title. It's one the perks of being a student assistant on the team's strength and conditioning staff.
"It's surreal," Vail said. "A year ago, I'm wearing a Beanie (Wells) jersey around. Now I know the players I was in awe of on a first-name basis and I have to put them through their workouts."
After meeting with director of football performance Eric Lichter and strength coordinator Doug Davis, Vail joined the team for spring drills this year. The meeting was arranged through director of player development Stan Jefferson and program assistant Doug Castle, both former long-time school administrators in Mansfield.
It was Tim Niswander, one of Vail's coaches at Lucas, who got the ball rolling with a phone call to Castle, who still lives in Mansfield.
"The only thing cooler than seeing one of my kids doing something like this would be actually being the kid doing this," Niswander said by e-mail. "From a graduating class of 53 to a Big 10 title. I mean, how cool is that?"

Vail described defensive end Thaddeus Gibson as a physical "freak" when it comes to the weights, but said no one can top offensive lineman Justin Boren -- the transfer from Michigan who sat out this season -- when it comes to strength.
"He hasn't been tested yet, but he's already exceeded our max of 435 pounds," Vail said.
