Yeah Mallett almost transferred a long time ago...It was common knowledge I thought

Yeah, that could be (and most likely is) the case. I don't follow the skunkbears close enough, nor have I been able to follow anything online untill recently. Just thought I'd share what I had heard.

CBS Sports: Rodriguez's QB quandary might rest on a Pryor commitment

Rodriguez's QB quandary might rest on a Pryor commitment

Jan. 17, 2008
By Dennis Dodd
CBSSports.com Senior Writer

Rich Rodriguez has a lot more to worry about than what did or didn't go into that paper shredder at West Virginia.

Try a quarterback depth chart that is a bit riven itself.

Chad Henne is gone. Ryan Mallett has transferred. Next up on the depth chart is Georgia Tech transfer Steven Threet, whose next college pass will be his first.

What happened? We're talking about Michigan, the gold standard when it comes to quarterbacks. Coming into the 2007 season, every starter since 1989 at least made it into an NFL camp.

That doesn't help the current situation with a new coach and no quarterbacks -- or none to speak of with the height, weight and speed requirements to run Rodriguez's spread option.

The race to replace has become not only a Michigan issue but also a national recruiting issue. Beyond changing the offense, Rodriguez is trying to install a new culture at staid, conservative Michigan. His first choice for his spread option obviously is Terrelle Pryor, the nation's No. 1 recruit out of western Pennsylvania. Thanks to Rodriguez, Michigan is now among Pryor's finalists along with LSU, Oregon, Ohio State and Penn State.

Whether Threet, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound drop-back kind of guy, can help change that culture becomes more of an issue if Pryor signs elsewhere. Most of the quarterbacks currently on the roster were recruited to run Lloyd Carr's pro-style offense.

cont'd...

ex-TSUN QB Coach Scott Loeffler may be looking at the 'Bama vacancy
(Crimson Chatter)
Former Michigan quarterbacks coach Scot Loeffler has been on campus this week and has emerged as an early leader to become Alabama's new offensive coordinator, The Huntsville Times has learned.
Alabama is seeking a replacement for Major Applewhite, who was hired at Texas on Wednesday.
Loeffler was not retained by new Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez.
Applewhite's departure was obviously expected before the formal announcement with Loeffler getting to campus so soon.

Frankly, I'm suprised they haven't lost several verbals with the contrast in styles between DickRod and LLLLLLoyd.

This could be another hurdle for RR.

JT had a heckuva job to do his first year replacing Cooper. Those kids were used to doing as they please, skipping classes, dealing stuff they shouldn't have been dealing, etc.

JT comes in and has to transition to his style without losing his team.

UM recruits have options that WVU recruits didn't have. February 6th will be an interesting date for UM.

UM with a few O line issues for 2008. Posted on mgoblog:

Two established sources indicate that both members of Michigan's 2007 right guard platoon will not be returning for fifth years due to medical issues. (Yes, medical issues beyond Mike Barwis.)

Though neither exactly shone in '07, losing both leaves Michigan's offensive line in a precarious position. Justin Boren and Steve Schilling return. Mark Ortmann is a good bet to start at one of the tackle spots. Past that it's all question marks; Michigan's inability to get more than two offensive linemen in the '07 recruiting class doesn't help.

It's actually a very good thing. Mitchell is a fat tub of lard who can't do anything and Ciulla couldn't beat out some very crappy OL.
Glass half full mode on 100% SNIPER26
Turning it back to more glass half empty mode, how does this place the depth of UM's O-line? (Also does it clearly makes TSUN's recruiting agenda for '09 and out more line heavy than before?)
