Some notes out of mgoblog...JT Floyd, a Tennessee verbal, appears ready to switch to Michigan:

"I would definitely say Michigan fans will be happy, but I'm going to leave it at that," Floyd said after returning home. "I want to talk it over with my parents first, take this last visit (to Tennessee) and get everything squared away."
Pointed out by Brian is that Floyd has been a Tennessee commit since last year, which actually works in Michigan's favor as Floyd would be pretty familiar with the Tennessee program and unlikely to see anything new. Bottom line: Cornerbacks are always good, we need cornerbacks.

Besides Feagin which ChisAto mentioned, BJ Daniels out of Florida is looking at Michigan....four-stars on Rivals, would be one of those really nice consolation prizes in case of no Pryor. If he comes to Michigan, would almost definitely start over Threet, Cone, or Feagin.

Rivals $

1/23

A look at UM's recent 5-stars and how they faired...including Mallett, Burgess, Henne, Woodley, Graham, Grady, Warren, Schilling and Watson.

My grades

Mallett: B- (only one year) Didn't practice with the first stringers much but was asked to play more than expected. Played relatively well but showed a lot of immaturity. Wins over PSU and ND bump up his grade in my book because I hate both teams.

Burgess: C Pretty good senior year, not much else. Was a beast last year but I could have been a beast with that DL.

Henne: B+ UM's statistical best passer in history. 4 year starter, threw for a whole lot of TDs and yards. Would be an A-/A if it weren't for the OSU goose egg.

Woodley: B+ Beast his junior and senior years, All-American his senior year and won an award or two. More consistency would result in A

B. Graham: B so far. Came in as a MLB, ate his way to a DT spot and now a DE. Had around 10 sacks this year, lots of potential next year. Disappeared in some games.

Grady: Inc. Backed up Michigan's all time leading rusher and tore an ACL. Front runner for the starting job next year, I suppose.

Warren: B+ so far Had some rough patches, but in all likelihood the next first round CB from Michigan. Really came into his own at the end of the year. Must improve tackling.

Schilling: C- so far. A bust at RT, will likely be the starting RG, a position he's better suited for. Still seeing Vern Gholston in his nightmares.

Watson: B- Very good senior year, meh the rest of the time.

Herbie calls a six-win season for Michigan next year....

KIRK HERBSTREIT: 'I think it's a six-win season for Michigan next year'

I, of course, respectfully disagree.

Next year's schedule looks like so:

Utah
Miami (Ohio)
@Notre Dame
Wisconsin
Illinois
Toledo
@Penn State
Michigan State
@Purdue
@Minnesota
Northwestern
@Ohio State

Four worst teams are the MAC teams plus Minny and Northwestern. That's four wins. Utah should be a win as well. Notre Dame - maybe good? Or maybe not. Purdue is meh. Illinois will probably not be as good as last year.

As far as the depth chart - RB, WR, TE, DL, and yes, CB look good. OL, S, and LB are question marks (ok, they look kinda crappy actually, though if half the wonderful stuff about Mike Barwis is true, the O-line will at least outcondition their competition). QB with Pryor is great. QB without Pryor is anywhere from semi-respectable to complete train wreck. Bottom line is I still see a pretty good talent difference between Michigan and most of the schools that would have to catch up to Michigan in order for six wins to be true. Wisconsin, Penn State, and OSU will be challenges and we may lose all three. On the next tier you've got ND, Illinois, MSU, Purdue. Even assuming we do lose all three of the top-tier games, we'd have to lose three of those other four as well to drop to a six-win season. I don't see that big of a drop on the way.

well, he also predicted Penn St. would win the Big 10 last year and compete for a National Title. I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

I don't think anybody knows what to expect from you guys next year, so I wouldn't say 6-6 is out of the question. DickRod is an unknown quantity at this point. How much will this legal mess distract him? How will the UM players adjust to his system? How will the OL perform? (that's the big one IMO). Look at DickRod's record at WVU, he didn't do anything special until he got Slaton and White in his system...3-8, 9-4, 8-5, 8-4 in his first four years. I've never seen why some people are so enamored by him. I won't even venture to make a prediction at this point because I have no idea what to expect out of him, or how UM will adapt to his system...and it's a big adjustment.

Or he could just go with a simple "they lost 4 games last year and will be significantly worse in 2008" line of thought. Looking at it like that makes 6 seem possible(not that I agree with him).

Utah Win
Miami (Ohio) Win
@ Notre Dame Young squad vs. young squad, and I'll take Rodriguez over Chuck Cheeseburger Win
Wisconsin Loss
Illinois Loss
Toledo Win
@ Penn State Annual win
Michigan State See previous
@ Purdue Loss
@ Minnesota Win
Northwestern Win
@ Ohio State Loss

That's 8-4, with major swing games with Sparty, PSU, and ND. So anywhere between 6-6 and 9-3 is possible IMO. PSU will undoubtedly have more returning talent, but it seems like we always beat them no matter what.
