2007 Preseason and Regular season Polls

How about this scenario: An undefeated Kansas team (most likely in the top 5) plays a one loss OK team in the Big XII Championship Game. Would the winner of that game get the #2 spot over LSU?

IMO they would have to. Even if they only got to #3 in the human polls that undefeated record would probably make them #2 in the BCS.

If Kansas finishes undefeated, and they don't make the BCS Championship game, the system would become worthless. The BCS rankings are about on-field performance. But the fact that LSU is ahead of ANY undefeated teams shows that it is more of a popularity poll than it is a performance poll. You can argue all you want about the fact that Ohio State and Kansas haven't beaten anyone of the caliber that LSU has. And I wouldn't put up much of a fight. But, more importantly, Kansas and Ohio State (and Hawaii, for that matter) can say something that LSU can't say: that they haven't LOST to anyone, either.

If a 1-loss LSU team gets in over an undefeated Ohio State or an undefeated Kansas, you're announcing to the world that LSU's game against Kentucky was meaningless.

Have you seen Kansas's OOC slate? I'm as big a critic of the SEC love as anyone, but kU's schedule is a joke.

And LSU is loading up the powerhouses of Mid. Tenn St., Tulane, LA Tech, and VT. Sure VT is something decent, but let's not get carried away with LSU's strength of OOC schedule.

I think Zurp is dead-on. If a 1-loss LSU team beats out a no-loss KU team (or any other undefeated BCS conference team), then the system is seriously busted. What the hell is the point for Kansas if winning every game on their schedule, including the Big 12 championship game over OK, doesn't get them into the NC game?

Im with ya but I want to see KU win out first. The Big 12 mess at the top of the polls is getting a bit ridiculous.

Kansas has played a D1-AA team with 7 losses, a winless FIU, and two 5-win teams. kU's best wins are against Colorado (5-5), A&M (5-4), and KState (4-4).

LSU has wins over #11 VaTech, #15 Florida, #18 Auburn, #22 Alabama, South Carolina (5-4), and MSU (4-4)

Only one of which represents their OOC strength of schedule. And I'm not buying that VT is anywhere near the 11th best team in the country.

Anyways, all it comes down to is: What would be better for the BCS if Kansas wins out (yes, that could be a big if) or a 1-loss LSU? I'd have to think that a lot of Big 12 fans would be crying foul if Kansas gets snubbed over LSU in that case.

What would happen is that Kansas would play in the title game. They are already #4 in the BCS! With possible games against Mizzou and OU coming up, they would most likely move ahead.

Now, LSU would probably stay #2 in the AP poll. So if OSU looses too Kansas, we could see another split title.

Longshot, but possible.

If OSU, Kansas, LSU and Oregon dont lose another game, that could be a real mess.

People keep complaining that the BCS doesn't work and that it sends the wrong teams to the Championship. I think this is one of the first years that it is working. The games are being decided on the field and not on paper. The more teams loose, the more decided the BCS is. That is all the BCS is to determine; Wins, and Loses. It is not a popularity contest.

If you put the caveat "among BCS conferences" in there I agree. If not its hard to explain Hawaii this year and Boise last year never receiving any serious NC consideration whatsoever.

Let it all shake out and lets see whats what. Every year there seems to be some possible cataclismic scenario if this team or that wins out and it almost always gets settled on the field.

IF Kansas could somehow win out I'd say they'll probably jump a 1 loss LSU or Oregon. I'd put the chances of that if well less than 25%.

OTOH OU is going to get a shot at a top rated BCS team in their CCG that Oregon and LSU won't get. So the more likely scenario is to try and predict how that may boost Oklahoma.

LSU has a tough out in Arkansas to end the season and probably a so-so UT team in the SEC CG.

Oregon has completed the tough part and has 3 very winnable games left.

After looking at the computer rankings WVU can forget it. They will not outdo any other 1 loss team(of LSU/OU/OU). Their only hope is for a rash of upsets so everyone else is at 2 losses.

I'd say the order of highest chance to make it vs lowest looks something like:

1. OSU
2. Oregon
3. LSU
4. Oklahoma
5. Kansas
6. WVU
