2007 Preseason and Regular season Polls

-Illinois Zooking last night helps us in the long run, tsun will get all the comeback love and be ranked higher when we play. All the media hype that was going to be slathered all over UI untill they remembered who they are will now go to tsun.

I hope enough voters saw that tsun was playing without Hart and with Henne in and out of the game, they showed some heart last night and they look like they have become more like the team the press expected them to be

Of course, I'm sure there will still be about 6 2 loss SEC teams ahead of them in the polls

National media types don't watch the games they vote/pass judgement on. Even if they did you could make the case that Illinois found ways to lose that game as much as you could give credit to tsun for playing so short handed.

I personally have to give a big tip of the cap to tsun, they've gotten a lot better the past 6 games than they were playing the previous 4. That said I still think we match up quite well against them.

How much of an indicator of TSUN's late season play could the Illinois game be?

Hart-less they never showed the kind of dominating rushing attack and ball control seen in some earlier games.
Often placed in bad third down situations only to benefit from extremely undisciplined play by the Illini, who gave up 107 yards in penalties.
Rudderless at times it seemed with the Henne to Mallett shuffle.

By the time the Buckeyes face TSUN it could be with a very banged up Hart and an equally questionable Henne under center. I like the Buckeyes chances.

In running down the BCS prior rankings it seems likely we should see the following:

1 - Ohio State -- though probably with a weakened differential over number 2.
2 - Boston College -- being idle can actually help your rating
3 - LSU - their closer than needed win over Auburn was dramatic, but a real number 1 team shouldn't be taken that close by what is really an over-rated Auburn team - certainly NOT in Baton Rouge. If they pick up 1st place votes from BC or tOSU then those voters have NOT been paying attention (Wilner).
4 - Oklahoma - early scare, but they pull away to win in Ames Iowa.
5 - Arizona State - holding a place till USC kicks the crap out of them.
6 - West Virginia - hanging in their, next test? (We don't want to be ranked) Rutgers.
7 - Oregon

Not all human voters will likely be arrayed as above, but most will and the computers will juggle the rest.

Then there will be Wilner's ballot which will inexplicably have the '69 Miracle Mets as his top team ...

of all time.

In my opinion, after watch I saw yesterday, if the Buckeyes can pull it all together, and better yet, if we faced better opponents than we have, we would be the #1 team in the nation based on talent. We have a great tailback that is the center of gravity on offense, with a steady (most of the time) QB under center, and some great playmakers on the outside. And we also got the best defense in the nation.

But honestly, yesterday's LSU-Auburn game just adds to the question: how can we objectively compare two teams with very different schedules? The LSU game last night was just like the Florida-Auburn game last season, those games are common in the SEC every season. And we can't be saying that Florida lost to an overrated Auburn team last year too, can we?

If I really had to vote, I vote OSU slightly ahead of LSU for talent, but I'd vote LSU way ahead of OSU in terms of being battle tested. Whether that would make a difference in Jan., I don't know. But that's just how I see it now.

If you listen to a lot of the pro-SEC media, you compare the two by saying that Ohio State got embarassed in the national championship game last year. Therefore, LSU is miles ahead of Ohio State.

The logic doesn't make sense to me, but that's what the side-kick dude on Rivals Radio was saying this morning. His name is Joyner. Drew Joyner? Andrew Joyner? That guy is a tool.

This SEC talk just isn't going to go away unless we play LSU in the Superdome this year for the NC and win.......period. Right, wrong or indifferent thats the way it is.

Untill then grin and bear it, we deserve the doubting after the NC loss last year.

Well, you better believe the refs will do everything in their power to keep LSU at one loss. If they have two losses the has no chance of having a team represented in the BCS.

If that wasn't obvious last night it never will be.

The only way to stop this talk is to walk the talk on the field. Our offense was exposed yesterday in two minutes of the third quarter and it was not lost on the public or our opponents that we were outscored 17-0 to end the game yesterday.

I think some folks here should reconsider this "world is out to get us" talk.

A look at the computer ratings is a rather sobering experience this week. Not one of the teams we played is any longer listed in the top 25 in the Sagarin's. The Big Ten dropped to 6th place behind the ACC now. TSUN and Minnesota have both lost to !-AA teams. Computers don't have bias. They don't have agendas against us.

If you look at past years, posters here have argued quite passionately that it is unfair to rank teams that play easy schedules higher than those who play tough games, week in and week out. Well, it is a simple fact that the Big Ten has really fallen badly this year. People here would be reacting very differently to the rankings if we were LSU and they were us.

The Buckeyes need to win out and they need to avoid the kind of finishes we saw yesterday.
