2007 Preseason and Regular season Polls

Cal at #3...

This is turning into a dream football season.

I'm not sold on Cal being better or more talented than Florida, Oklahoma, or Ohio State.

But my Bears showed me a LOT this weekend. This team has heart - and that's something special. I'm very confident in Tedford to lead us to a win every game we play.

The actual AP Poll

Rank Team Record Votes Previous
1 LSU (33) 5-0 1,593 2
2 USC (32) 4-0 1,591 1
3 California 5-0 1,475 6
4 Ohio State 5-0 1,420 8
5 Wisconsin 5-0 1,271 9
6 South Florida 4-0 1,203 18
7 Boston College 5-0 1,172 12
8 Kentucky 5-0 1,143 14
9 Florida 4-1 1,031 4
10 Oklahoma 4-1 992 3

I actually like that top-10, based on the games that have been played so far this year, which is what the polls should be. Even though it's not the way the final poll is expected to look, I believe teams should be ranked on what they've actually done, not on how you'd handicap them.

The change at the top will delay USC from catching tOSU in the most weeks voted #1 in the history of the AP poll:

Weeks voted #1 in the AP poll, all time, including preseason polls:

95 - Oklahoma
95 - Notre Dame
88 - Ohio State
86 - USC
70 - Nebraska
68 - Miami
59 - FSU
42 - Texas
34 - Michigan
31 - Alabama

USC media darlings again

 Aren't you going to complain that 1 AP voter had USC at #3? I don't know who it was, but the vote counts indicate that.

The top 3 teams probably control their own destiny as far as making the BCS Championship Game, while tOSU and everybody else still need some help.

That's rarified air for Cal - we'll see if they can handle it.

The fans love USC, though.

espn.rankings

ESPNU Allstate Standings (Fan poll)
1. LSU 5-0
2. California 5-0
3. USC 4-0
4. Ohio State 5-0

The good news is that there is plenty of help just around the corner. In 02 we needed a lot of help and we got all we needed, mainly from ourselves.

Yes. When I say USC I guess I should do it by conference.

Its a 3 conference race for 2 spots in the NC game at this point.

Pac 10 champ/B10 champ/SEC champ. Given what we have seen as far as parity this year I highly doubt we get 3 undefeated conf champs.

If we can take care of business we will be playing for the NC again this year.

I agree. If tOSU runs the table, they won't get jumped by any other undefeated team. There are 15 undefeateds left in FBS.

The Primary BCS Championship Game Contenders:
USC-Cal winner
LSU
tOSU

Big East undefeateds left (USF, Cincy, UConn)
ACC undefeated left (Boston College)
Big 12 undefeateds left (Missouri, Kansas)

Other BCS Conference undefeateds (Kentucky, Arizona St., [strike] Purdue, Wiscy [/strike])
Non-BCS undefeateds (Hawaii)

I've crossed out Purdue and Wiscy since tOSU plays them.

I didn't think that a 1-loss tOSU team had a chance for the Championship Game this year. But after yesterday, that's a remote possibility.

Dispshit AP Voter Wilner's top 25 has OSU at #7

Amongst other egregious votes and rankings he has this gem:

Jon, just do us all a favor - quit now. It is quite one thing to have a poll so completely out of kilter with everyone else, but having the gall to blog the goofy reasoning behind his excruciating bad judgment should be cause enough for the AP to can his voting privileges - yesterday.

Let him keep going as far as I'm concerned. The AP Poll is not part of the BCS formula any more, so his vote means as much as yours or mine.

That poll is absolutely fucking absurd. South Carolina #4, Oregon #6...are you fucking kidding me? Oregon #6? Really? Does this dipshit even take this seriously? It's nitwits like this that make the polls a joke. I'd love to see his preseason rankings.

There really is no one who deserves to be ranked higher than us right now...if you look at the other undefeated teams right behind us (Whisky, USF, BC, and UK) I don't think you can argue that any of them should be ahead of us...Hell you could make the argument that we should even be ahead of USC just based on the common opponent aspect, although they do have that nice win against nebraska...but nevertheless I am certaintly thrilled with this poll:)

I'll never take anyone serious when they move Kansas State, Florida State, and Auburn into the polls after being unranked... Alabama and Texas were always VERY suspect to me and personally I thought the K State game panned out like it should have, not an upset to me. FSU surprised me a bit but Alabama isn't THAT good.. They showed that by letting Arkansas back into the game.
