2007 Preseason and Regular season Polls

Were probably moving on up next week if we win:

#1 I think there is a very good chance we say bye bye to WVU this Friday night @ USF.

#2 KSU @ Texas...who knows. KSU sucks but Texas is not a legit top 10 team. They can lose on any given Saturday when they aren't playing Rice.

#3 Cal @ Oregon...nuff said.

I'd say at least one of those 3 upset chances actually happens. I don't know that I would even consider #1 or #3 an upset.

I can't wait until WVU gets exposed. I think we beat Texas 9 out of 10 on a neutral field. USC, FLA and LSU are scary good. If I were voting and trying not to be too much of a homer I would say we are a solid 7 so its really not too far off right now. The good thing is that looking forward it appears that if we keep winning everything else will sort itself out. Oklahoma is worrisome though.

1. The talking heads and the print guys are all putting the knock on the Big 10 (see what happens when Big 10 teans lose to OOC opponents?). Duke beating Northwestern hardly helped matters, nor did the overall strength of the OOC games played by OSU, Wis, MSU, Purdue.

2. OK, but other than the SEC I don't see anything out there other than Oklahoma or USC to get that excited about. Cal, like Louisville and West Virginia, tries to outscore you as a substitute for defense.

3. So, if we hold on and run the string we will end up as BCS team, but we're not going to accumulate much respect by beating Wisconsin, Penn State or Michigan, i.e. If West Virgina wins out they'll be ranked ahead of us.

4. LSU - Florida may be the OSU - Michigan story of 07... If Cal loses a game and beats USC. and if LSU and Florida should split with one winning the scheduled game and the other winning the playoff game, there could be a real clamoring for a third, BCS championship rubber match.

I think if Oklahoma gets through the Texas game, they have a pretty straight shot at being 12-0 going into the Big XII title game.....

Texas will probably lose to Oklahoma and might find a way to lose to someone else, like Texas A&M or someone else they should, on paper, beat by 3 TDs....

LSU vs. Florida is going to be an awesome game to watch....although I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks Tim Tebow is going to get killed running as much as he does? And Florida has Ketucky and Georgia in the weeks following that LSU game. They could lose 2 out of those 3....

As much as USC looked dominant against Nebraska (totally overrated at the time) and Washington State, I wonder what will happen when they play a team that isn't offensively inept (like Oregon, for example)....

Time will tell, it's still kind of early to worry about any of this, let's all just keep hoping the Buckeyes stay focused and taking care of what they control....

The Harris poll is out. Link

OSU is 7th ahead of Texas and Wisky.

Somehow Wisky has 9, yes 9, first place votes while UF has 3, OU has 1 and WVU has 5.:shake:

Those 9 people need to have their voting rights yanked and right now.

EDIT

ok that has to be a typo the Harris site is showing no 1st place votes for Wisky or WVU.

I agree. Thing is, I don't know if there's anybody in the North to pull off an upset like KSU did in '03. I don't know if Nebraska is as good as that '03 KSU team. Not that they were anything great, but i think they were better than this 'Husker team. Right now OU, LSU and USC are head and shoulders above anybody else out there. If LSU can get through the SEC, we could have another perfect storm on our hands like 2004.

Nebraska is ranked 14th in total offense and has scord 52, 20, 31, and 41, but ok.

Let's look at that a bit deeper....

They put up 52 on a team that hasn't held a team to under 30 points that plays in I-A.

20 is nothing to talk about really.

31 against USC. If they had put them up in competetive minutes it would mean something to me.

41 against BALL STATE....and actually needed all 41.

Yep and if you want, add WVU and/or Ohio State to that equation....

It's almost too much to hope for.....

aka "in its only other game against a I-A opponent"

20 is nothing to talk about really.

But inept?

Not really worth discussing since it is the game in question.

41 against BALL STATE....and actually needed all 41.

Ergo offensively inept?

Look at who they played....

That 20 (and really the 31 against USC) came against decent defenses and USC completely shut them down when they had their starters in.

Nebraska was extremely lucky to get out of Wake with a win as it was....

It's not meant as a knock on USC, but Nebraska isn't nearly as good as people were (and I guess are) making them out to be.

Hell they gave up 40 to Ball Freakin State yesterday and could have very easily lost that game as well. The only game they've really gone out and taken care of business is was the first game against a Nevada team that found a way to lose to Northwestern....

You don't have to get defensive methomps. I think USC is the best team in the nation right now. I'm just saying that Nebraska isn't a very good team.

I don't care what the score was saturday, UF can play in that group at the top.

That being said I don't think LSU or UF can come out undefeated because they will have to play each other twice. Reg season and SEC CG.

USC or OU losses in their conferences would be major upsets at this point IMO.

My way too early devils advocate question is, say USC runs the table, OU gets exposed and UF/LSU have one loss each with OSU undefeated. After last years Bowl game and the overall perception of B10 weakness this year, would they vote OSU in over a 1 loss LSU/UF?

At this point I say no.

I'm not being defensive. I just don't understand the contention that Nebraska is offensively inept.
