College basketball roundup: Kentucky hopes to get on track against Louisville

Billy Gillispie is an un-Kentucky-like 6-6 in his first season as coach of the Wildcats.



Rick Pitino saw the score flash across the TV screen after another shocking Kentucky loss, picked up his phone and sent Billy Gillispie a text message.
Pitino -- who knows only too well how tough things can get while working in front of the most demanding fans in college basketball -- had a little advice for the first-year Kentucky coach.
"I texted him and said, 'You're doing the right things, stay with what you believe in and in the end you'll have your success,' " said the Louisville coach, who led Kentucky to the 1996 national title.

Yeah, K-Y sure made a great move in shoving Tubby out the door.

Too bad Minnesota didn't schedule Kentucky this season like Harvard scheduled Michigan. It would have been fun to see two disowned coaches bitch-slap their former teams.

No. 3 Kansas 85, Boston College 60 -- Darnell Jackson scored 12 of his 25 points during a 33-8 run that turned a tie game into a blowout, and Kansas beat Boston College yesterday in Boston.
Darrell Arthur had 22 points and seven rebounds for Kansas (14-0).
Rakim Sanders scored 21 points and Tyrese Rice 20 for Boston College (10-3). The Eagles had tied the score at 22 before giving up 33 of the next 41 points.

No. 2 Memphis 90, Pepperdine 53 -- Doneal Mack scored a career-high 23 points, making seven three-pointers, to lead host Memphis (13-0) to a school-record 40th straight home win.

No. 1 North Carolina 90, No. 19 Clemson 88, OT -- Wayne Ellington's three-pointer with 0.4 seconds left in overtime lifted North Carolina (15-0, 1-0) over Clemson (12-2, 0-1) in an Atlantic Coast Conference game in Clemson, S.C.
Ellington finished with a career-high 36 points, none more dramatic than his pull-up jumper from the left side of the key to win the game.
K.C. Rivers led Clemson with 24 points.
No. 17 Villanova 64, No. 13 Pittsburgh 63 -- Dante Cunningham made two free throws with 10 seconds left and Villanova (11-2, 1-1) then forced a turnover for a win over Pittsburgh (11-2, 1-1) in a Big East game in Villanova, Pa.

Actually, that was pretty darn good for it being late.

Almost as humiliating as having a penis that in terms of inches is as small as or smaller than the number of letters in the word "penis.":biggrin:
