2006 NFL Draft Order and #1 Pick Discussion (MERGED)

I just figured the Texans would want to better protect their costly investment (Carr) before investing in another costly investment that may flounder.(Bush)

I don't think Bush gets you more than 2 or 3 more wins next year at MOST.

I wouldn't think that even Bush gives them that much...

Just think what DD can do with a O-line in front of him, if he can put up the numbers like he did this year with a crap line, I'm sure that DD would be a top 5 rusher in the league with a line.

Houston Texans #1 Pick - Who you taking?

Carr is a good pocket passer with enough scrambling abliity to get the job done. Vince Young is not going to be running past LBs and breaking tackles like you saw him do last night in the NFL. Just like Vick, he's going to be out scrambling and some Free Safety or something is going to clean his clock and he's going to get injured. Young will no doubt be a good QB in the NFL, but Carr already has the expierence. You'll have to wait another 2 or 3 years before Young leads the team anywhere.

Carr just needs an O-Line and support around him and he'll get the job done. Carr is still young and so is the franchise. Give them time, it's way too early to put the can on David Carr. Once he gets better players around him, he'll really flourish. No reason to waste a draft pick on a QB when we already have one.

... Bottom line: He's a good QB surrounded by a bad team. Reminds me of, Jake Plummer in Arizona. Everyone said "Oh he sucks" when he was in arizona surrounded by bad players, but look at him on the Broncos and now in like 3 years or whatever he's lead them to the number two seed in the playoffs. David Carr can win.

Think about this: New and Improved Offensive Line, David Carr, Andre Johnson, and Reggie Bush... talk about a potentially great offense.

First the Texans need to see if they can get a good trade down since they don't really need a QB or RB. If that doesn't work they have a tough decision to make. Take Bush who will sell tickets and be able to fit in as a RB and slot WR or take the home state boy to play QB rather than Carr. Young might sell more tickets than Bush since he's from Texas. If they are going to go with Young they should try to trade Carr before the draft to get an extra pick or 2. I'm sure he would improve the QB position in Chicago, Detroit, and several other teams.

Texas needs a line first and foremost. If they can address that in free agency, they'd really like to be able to move down a couple spots and still grab Vince Young (if he comes out). This may not make a lot of football sense with Carr already in the fold and more pressing needs, but it would be a stroke of marketing genius in a state that now worships the ground Vince runs through defenders on.

Trade down if possible to address line needs.

If that doesn't happen maybe do a sign and trade with a team ala Manning & Rivers.

If that doesn't work, I guess you have to take Bush.

I think that if the Texans trade down (within the Top 5, where Young will not drop past), they would have to take Ferguson. He is a franchise OT and one of those guys that will be valuable to your team for years to come. Carr is not that bad, or bad enough to want to take a QB with a first round pick (let alone a Top 5 or 10 pick).

Taking a top defensive player after trading down, like Hawk or a d-lineman, wouldn't be that bad of an idea, but i would still take Ferguson.

You're right on the money. Carr is a very capable QB. The guy had a 77.8 QB rating, and played behind a dreadful offensive line. That shows that the guy can play. Being an equal fan of the Titans and Texans; what I want to see is the Texans draft Bush, and the Titans get Young. I know every one says that guys like D'Brickishaw Ferguson don't come by often, and that they need line help (which they do), but I have never seen a guy like Bush. Sure, they have Domanick Davis, who is superstar material, but they could trade him to a team like the Jets or Cardinals, who could definitely use a RB. Also, the Texans can still draft offensive linemen in the draft after the first round. They have the first pick in the second round, and the first two picks in the third round, and more after that. They should focus on that, and then draft in their secondary. You can always sign offensive linemen in free agency, as well. The point is you can find MANY linemen better than the Texans' line.

You might be a little biased though, because you are fans of the Texans and the Titans, and I don't blame you for wanting an exciting skill player to boost the offense, and its hard to want to pick offensive linemen when you have such a high draft pick, even though they would be worth the pick.

Of course I am a biased fan, but I don't know how wanting Reggie Bush makes me biased. Sure, D'Brickishaw Ferguson is a great LT (which I know is hard to find), but Reggie Bush is one of the greatest talents there's been in the last couple of decades. You take Bush. I will say that I would much rather see the Texans take Ferguson over Young, though.

After watching the Rose Bowl I wonder if Lendale White could fall to the Steelers late in the 1st round?

You talk about a team and a player made for each other.
