2006 NFL Draft Order and #1 Pick Discussion (MERGED)

I'm not sure about everyone else, but the Texans do not seem like a team in dire need of a running back or quarterback, so the first pick should be interesting--I'm not sure you can pass up on either Bush or Leinart with that top pick.

Honestly if I was picking with for the Texans I would take the OT from Virginia, Ferguson. Pro Bowl left tackles don't come around very often, but when they do they are more valuable than an all-pro rb.

Not a chance. There's no way a team could pass up a player like Bush to draft a left tackle. They can pick one up in free agency or the second round if need be, but they can't pass up a talent like Bush.

It would be like drafting Sam Bowie because they just don't need a shooting guard right now.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Texans entertained offers for that pick.

I bet they could get a first round pick this year, a few later picks, and either an established NFL player or two or a few picks next year for this particular #1 pick. Personally, I'd stick with Domanick Davis. He's shown propensity to get knicked up a bit, but as NFL RB go, he's been reliable. He's also going to be 25 at the start of next season. He's a great receiver, he can pick up a blitz, and he's a great runner. I don't see ANY need to go with an unproven talent on the NFL level, regardless of the upside. If it's ONE thing the Texans don't need, it's an RB. Drafting Reggie Bush would be the height of the Texans's managment miscalculations.

And from what I understand, D'Brickshaw Fergueson's draft stock has fallen after not having the same type of season he had last year. Still the best OT in the draft, and probably a lock to go early in the first. Definitely not an Orlando Pace type of player we're looking at though.

My early favorite to move up and snag Bush is the Jets... if they can manage to work out a deal, I think they'll take one last chance with Pennington at the helm to get a guy like Bush. They have some appealing pieces to move to the Texans on that O-Line... and Fergueson is nearly a lock to be there at #4. I know that's who I'd be calling if I were the Texans.

Does Leinhart go off at #2? Brooks has alienated himself from the Saints as an organization I think, and he certainly hasn't been a great performer there.

The name of the CB from VT slips my mind currently, but his draft stock is WAY up there, I can see him coming off at #3 to the Titans.

The Saints getting Lineart would help that team tremendously. They have some other holes, but solid QB play and a healthy Duece makes them contenders IMO. I think they're sitting the prettiest in this draft.

Good post. While Reggie Bush has the potential to be Ladanian Tomlinsin-like, or better, they need to look at the overall picture. Sure, drafting Bush would put fans in the seats atleast for the begginning, but with the sheer value of that #1 pick, they would be able to help the entire team considerably by trading the pick and getting everything that they can out of it.

But if they DO draft Bush, I think they would trade Davis, and try to get some support with him. It would be a smart move, and looking at the bigger picture, though, to trade the pick. Just as long as they get what they should in return.

Well then I am sure the Texan's and their fans are REALLY glad you aren't picking for them. They could trade down and still pick him up. There is NO WAY whoever finally gets the #1 pick will take ANYBODY but Reggie Bush. If they did, they'd be very foolish. He may be overhyped...but he could be half as good as most expect him to, and still be a good pick.
