2006 NFL Draft Order and #1 Pick Discussion (MERGED)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Texans entertained offers for that pick.

I agree.

The Texans need to trade the pick. They first need to keep David Carr from getting killed.

As far as A.J. Hawk, every draft prediction I've seen has had Hawk going to the Packers from anywhere 5-7th pick.

I feel he'll be there for the Pack.

Talk about a guy that fits the Ray Nitschke type mystique of the Packers.

First of all, the draft is going to be the best thing that happens to me all year for the NFL, being a Texans and Titans fan. Reggie Bush is definitely going to the Texans, and I'm hoping that the Titans pick AJ. That way they could have a great LB core with Bulluck, and Kassell (problem is they have Sirmon at OLB), but honestly I don't see how you can pass up on a guy like AJ, whose defense is absolutely dreadful. Yeah, and Thump you're right. David Carr needs some protection or he's going to be out of the league in a couple of years. Both teams have potential, but especially with the Texans getting Bush, they seem to have a bright future ahead.

As a fan of DA BEARS, I really hope I don't have to root against AJ. I used to really like Na'il Diggs... but he's been temporarily disowned. For someone like AJ, who has a special place in my sporting heart, I have NO idea how I'll react.

Sure, the Texans could trade Domanick Davis, but what can they get for him? Certainly, it will be considerably less than what they could for that pick, and not only that, Davis has proven he can excel in the NFL. Remember when the Colts and Seahawks were trying to trade Alexander and Edge? Two premier RB in the NFL, and all they were asking for was a 2nd round pick. Of course, it was because neither team is interested in paying them exorbinant salaries, but the situations are going to be similar. "Look, we have this guy we really have no use for, what can you give us?" Whereas trading the #1 pick, or shopping it, sends a completely different message.

I don't think it's possible for Bush to live up to the hype at this point. He's too tall for his weight, and though he's fast, he's not NFL fast. He's certainly not LT just yet, and has a lot of work to do if he wants to be.

Whatever. They can work with Reggie in the weight room this summer, and I'm sure that will make a difference to his ability. If I were the Texans GM, I would keep Domanick Davis for Reggie's first year because I'm not sure that Reggie will be able to be a premier back and carry the ball 20-30 times when needed. A Davis-Bush backfield would certainly be a great and exciting tandem. The Texans should just draft Bush, and then get offensive linemen, so they can succeed. Then they should focus on defense.

Dont get your hopes up. Before yesterday, the Texans have given up 22 more sacks than the second leading team! Drafting Reggie Bush would be like buying a $500,000 car without a gas pedal. They need O-lineman, and if they were smart, they would trade out of that pick and get stud lineman in the first. Im not a Texans fan but thats just me.

Yes, but completely unnessacary. If the Texans want to actually compete and be taken seriously in this league, they need to trade the #1 pick and get enough in return to help out more than just a position that they are already solid on. A Davis-Bush backfield doesn't mean shit if they're going to have an entire NFL defense zoning in on them every week, with not much to stop them.

yes, good offensive linemen are such an available commodity at the NFL level, especially the LT position, where Houston is probably the weakest. They can safely drop down to #3, still draft ferguson, and probably accrue a host of picks in the process.

Maybe Collins can trade all of the Browns' picks for a shot at Bush. Hey, let's throw in next year's choices too. :smash: :smash:

As I stated earlier I think the Texans should trade the pick but heard this morning that the Texans had 20,000-30,000 empty seats by the end of the season and Reggie Bush as the pick would fill those seats up.

They could get a lot for that first pick. A GM with any stones would trade that pick away.

Exactly. They need to get the fans back into it. My friends in Houston said that the whole Houston community is absolutely distraught over the situation that the Texans were in. Reggie Bush is one of the most amazing backs I've ever seen perform at the college football level. Yes, he may have exceptional talent around him, but he is definitely a great player with extraordinary talent, and to top it off is a very modest guy, which should keep him out of trouble. Believe me, there are many offensive linemen that the Texans can draft, but there is only one Reggie Bush.

Well, right now I'd put DDavis in the top 5 RB in the league, and before you fly off the handle, think about it for a second.

DDavis has played forty games in the NFL... and has amassed 4371 yards of offense, almost 110 total yards a game. He's also averaged 32 receiving YPG in that time. Consider what he's been surrounded by, and it's a big accomplishment.

Does anyone believe Reggie Bush can do better for 16 games in the NFL than what DDavis could do in a full season (extrapolating the stats, it's 1784 yards of total offense) with the Texans? I surely don't. Will he fill seats? If he does manage to put up numbers comparable to Davis, maybe. What about when they get the same results and they still don't win 6 games and David Carr gets pounded into the turf for another year? David Carr will be 27 next year, how long will he be able to stand? I don't think the Texans will pack the stadium with Tony Banks at the helm.

They've been going backwards, Seth Payne's their best defensive lineman. Jaime Sharper is gone. Aaron Glenn is gone. Chester Pitts is protecting David Carr's blind side (68 sacks of Carr this year), how can anyone say it's a GOOD idea to draft this guy? How well can he chip defensive ends? I wonder if he could double as a DE/LB? It's akin to the Packers drafting Aaron Rodgers last year. "Where's the one spot we don't need to improve? RB... let's get one of those!"

I will, however, buy into the 'Domanick Davis is a little injury prone' argument. He missed 5 games this year with a knee problem that persisted all year, but all it took was arthroscopic surgery to fix.

Also, I am a believer in 'there's two spots in sports you can never have enough good players, that's starting pitching in baseball and running backs in football.'
