Really surprised some folks view him as a luxury. Urb has always been pretty high on him. He's 247's #1 TE and the composite #5 and yet his recruitment now seems underwhelming. I'd love to close with him and one of the big 3 DL guys (4 counting Holley). This kid has some serious offensive skills that you can't teach. Since we didn't land a tall WR I'd personally like to land this guy to continue developing depth at a offensive threat we haven't seen yet out of this offense. Personally that speaks more to Brax's abilities than a scheme statement about TH and UM. We would absolutely utilize an H Back/TE more offensively if Brax could handle it. MG is a very gifted athlete I would love to squeeze into this class.

Only a luxury from the standpoint of immediate positional need. In terms of talent, he is about as good as any in this class. I would much rather take Mike than another WR or CB. If we can pull it off, I would love a finish of Taylor, McDowell (or Thomas/Knadi), and Gesicki.

Can't see us fitting 3 more in. 2 more seems like all we can hope for but what do I know? No knock on Taylor but we are obviously trying to land a DL guy no matter what and if it came down to Taylor and Gesicki for the last spot the choice to me is pretty clear. Gesicki is a clear talent and Taylor is more of a project IMO. Side note - I sure am glad this is the last year of limited schollies.

I hear what you're saying but I agree with RB. Gesicki is only seen as a luxury because of our number limitations, and more of a need on the D and O lines. I personally would rather even have a project at O line than gesicki, because we have been lacking quality depth there for years, and IMO, OL is more important than TE, especially with already having Baugh. I wouldn't have a problem with getting gesicki, but I'd prefer a close of Taylor and either Thomas/Nnadi/Cage(or a very good D lineman becaus let's be honest, with this staff it's never really set)

Agreed. TE is a luxury. I think if we pull in Mike, he will probably be a redshirt. Wed ont need someone at this spot until next year. Would be different is we ran more 2 TE sets, which i wouldnt have a problem with. That and we have so much depth at RB and pivot that can catch and block that they can easily line up in a TE type role.

If that's not hedging, I'm not sure what is. Let's see what happens after his visit with James Franklin...whose tight ends had 20 catches combined last year. Not that OSU had a lot more (34 by comparison) but if you think OSU gets a bad rep with future TEs, imagine trying to recruit one to PSU right now with those kinds of numbers and a depth chart that features six TEs...all of whom are either FR or SO eligibility-wise.

Really? Which 5 are those?

Personally I don't think it's a position of "major" need, but if the Coaching staff has their sights set on him, he must be relatively special, thus exciting me of the possibilities.

Blazevich, Dickerson, Bunting, Helm (I know there was no official offer, but it was probably due to the lack of interest on the other end), Luatua, Dixon. Most of these kids were offered early in the process, pre-camp.

Sure we threw lots of offers out there but to think he would be our 6th choice right now is laughable. I'd argue this staff would very likely take him before all others given the chance. Have you guys seen his vids? This kid is a multi-sport athlete who has all the tools to be a great offensive weapon. A true pass catching TE that gives our offense something we have yet to see. This guy is a match up nightmare. I stand with ShowMeBuck here. WANT.
