'14 NJ TE Mike Gesicki (Penn State Verbal)

Off the top, Luatua, Dixon, blazevich, Goolsby.

Urban throws out offers like a mofo though, so I don't think you can say Gesicki was plan F (or whatever).

All in all, this is a pretty loaded TE class.

Luatua had his visit canceled, so not sure you can count that. Balzevich, yes.
Blazevich, Dickerson, Bunting, Helm (I know there was no official offer, but it was probably due to the lack of interest on the other end), Luatua, Dixon. Most of these kids were offered early in the process, pre-camp.

Other than Blazevich, and possibly Helm, I don't think any of them had OFFER's. Dixon, maybe, but that never gained traction.

It's certainly a bit misleading to call him "6th choice"

Gesicki is only seen as a luxury because of our number limitations, and more of a need on the D and O lines. I personally would rather even have a project at O line than gesicki, because we have been lacking quality depth there for years, and IMO, OL is more important than TE, especially with already having Baugh.

I have heard that sometimes TEs becomes OTs, in a pinch.

They wanted Bunting, and was in early, but the kid swung to UM. Point is that OSU was making runs at those first batch of guys while MG was still a relative unknown in the "OOS Prospects to Watch" thread. No doubt the kid can play, but I'm not going to be terribly upset if he sticks with PSU and we land a blue-chipper at another position.
