'11 IL C/PF Anthony Davis (Kentucky Signee)

Davis Delivers With Spectacular Summer

July 26, 2010
Going into this summer, Anthony Davis of Chicago Perspective Christian was considered a five-star recruit. With the July evaluation period now winding down, it?s safe to say Davis held on to that stature.

And through the whole process, the 6-9 forward/center has maintained that he is giving serious consideration to only three schools: Kentucky, Syracuse and Ohio State.

?All three of them, I like their style of play,? Davis told SportsRappUp.com. ?They all get up and down and like to run.

?With Kentucky, Coach Cal (John Calipari) is a great coach. He?s gotten five players to the league in this draft. Ohio State, Coach (Thad) Matta, he?s great. Evan Turner was in the draft. They like to bring their bigs out and have them shoot. And Syracuse, I feel I really could help them. Syracuse has always been one of my schools. I like the way they play and everything about Syracuse.?

One of the top players in the 2011 class, Davis still wants to do some homework on Ohio State. But he like everything he knows to this point.

?Jared Sullinger is going to be there this year,? he said. ?Hopefully he?ll go one-and-done. No, I?m kidding. Hopefully I can play with him. But if he goes one-and-done, all well to him.

?Also, Shannon Scott is coming in and a lot of players right now have Ohio State in their top three. I played with Shannon Scott in the NBA (Top 100) Camp and we played real well together, so that also could be a great place.

?Just looking at what could happen at Ohio State if everybody stays and more good players come, we could win a national championship if I decide to go there.?

Is it weird I feel more comfortable with OSU's chances when it's Thad recruiting against Calipari Boeheim than I would if it were Tressel going up against Saban and Meyer? Either way, glad to see UNC is not in the mix. I would be very surprised if this decision didn't come down to OSU or Kentucky. A class of Thompson, Hollowell, Davis and Scott would be amazing...

Hollowell would be in the '12 class if I am not mistaken. Does anyone know if we plan to take 4 and assume at least one person leaves early? I would guess the answer to that is yes considering the number of offers we have outstanding and the range of players (SG-C) that we have offered.

You're right...I meant Chane as the 4th in the '11 class...

No, it isn't wierd. Matta seems to be more proactive and energetic in recruiting, though it may be easier to be that way when you are trying to sign an average of 3-4 kids versus 22. However, I am also more comfortable because I have seen a Matta coached OSU beat Florida, LSU, Tennessee, etc and those schools can't use the OSU can't beat us line in recruiting. If there is a chink in Tressel's armor it is his coaching and recruiting (when it comes down to OSU versus 1 SEC school) against the SEC, imo. JT has clearly beating SEC schools for recruits, but most often it is when a player picks OSU over 3 or 4 other potential schools, not when JT goes up against just one. Some will disagree, but that is how I see it.

Hollowell is in the '12 class, but I would love to see him as the SG in that class. Of the 4 guards from Indiana we are targeting in that class Hollowell is definitely the favorite. *Edit* Looks like I was beaten to the punch on this

My dream class for '11 would be to replace Hollowell on that list with Amir Williams. I think this past year we learned we need a bit more depth up front and I don't think Sullinger is going to be here past 2 years. I can see Davis playing part time at C and part time at PF when Williams is in the line-up.

The tread title is '11 IL C Anthony Davis.

The supposition is that his weight will catch up to his growth spurt and when he gets to college he will be a center. However, I do see him still on the skinny side which is why, along with the fact he has some outside skills from his days playing guard, I can see him at PF if Williams is at C.

your assuming Davis is going to put AT LEAST 40 pounds on to get to 225 in 2 years or less which would still be somewhat small for a C
no chance at all davis plays C anywere he goes sorry wont happen
he has a high metabolisim he'll probably top out at 210 but if you think you can contend with a 210 C then feel free but theres no reason to attempt it especally when he has almost no post up game on either end of the floor being just a 6'1 PG last season he would get dominated game in and game out

and who cares what the thread title is? the thread title is wrong

FWIW, I haven't seen 185 anywhere. Rivals has him at 6-10, 220; Scout at 6-8, 195.

Absolutely no one thinks he's going to play center at 185. He alreday weighs more than 185 and is probably right around 200 lbs right now. How much he gains by the time the college season starts next November is anybody's guess, but I don't think 225 is very unrealistic.

That being said, I think he'll be a PF wherever he goes, but with his length, quickness and shot blocking ability, he certainly could man the post on defense. How much does B10 first teamer JJ weigh? I doubt its more than 220 and I think Purdue could have made a run at a final 4 and national championship had Hummel not been injured. You don't see a lot of big talented centers in college because they tend to go to the NBA early, so yes, I think you can get away with a 220 lb shot blocking center in college.

He's been listed as 187 on this thread a few times...

The King City Classic has a list of players with such precise measurements (6-9 187 for Davis, 6-6 172 for another guy, etc.) that it makes me wonder if they measured everyone at the event. That event was less than a month ago.
