Michigan's upset victory opens Hornsby's eyes

Being present for a big win over rival Penn State in the final seconds helped Michigan get their foot in the door for four-star athlete Jamar Hornsby.

In the beginning Hornsby was expected to make his announcement on Oct. 5 with Florida being the very clear leader. After postponing that to head to Ann Arbor, he returned with a very open mind about his recruiting.

"Trust me, they have a real good chance," Hornsby said. "It was a crazy game and it pushed Michigan up a lot on my list."

The visit went well, but Florida is still considered the team to beat for Hornsby. His official visit is set for the Gators on Nov. 25. Georgia, Alabama, and USC are also visit possibilities.

Several recruiting sites are reporting that quarterback Jevan Snead has decommitted from Florida and will instead cast his lot with Texas.
In better news for Florida, Jacksonville Sandalwood's Jamar Hornsby has verbally committed to the Gators over Georgia. The 6'2" 190 pounder is Florida's 11th verbal commitment for the 2006 class.

UF player used credit card of dead girl for 6 months

Jamar Hornsby, a University of Florida football player, was released on his own recognizance after turning himself in Friday morning on charges of credit card theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
Hornsby, 21, was allegedly using a credit card issued to Ashley Slonina, a University of Florida student who died in an October 2007 motorcycle accident in which walk-on UF football player, Michael Guilford, also died.
The card abuse started Oct. 13, 2007, the day after the girl's death, according to court records and involved a BP gas card. Hornsby made his first court appearance at 9 a.m. Friday and was released at 9:30 a.m. He was given curfew of 9 p.m. to 6 p.m. by Judge William E. Davis in Alachua County Court.

Seriously, that is fucked up. "Sunshine" - the scout team Quarterback - was a teammate liked by everyone on the Gator team. He and his girlfriend died in a motorcycle accident in 07. If he did this (and it seems unlikely that they'd get this wrong) he deserves to be kicked off the team.


Why can't he just dig her up and make a bong of her skull like the other kids are doing?:shake:

I am appalled that you two would even suggest such a thing of me. I am the epitome of both class and good taste and I would never condone, and certainly not make light of, such a serious situation as this. Shame on the both of you. You should be ashamed of yourselves. :shake:

What would make him think that that was a good idea? Man.

I remember his recruitment very well and he had a ton of things going for him athletically. Could have been a two-way star. What a waste of talent there, if this is indeed true.

uhm...to do something like this...thinking isn't involved.

You can't really have ANYTHING between the ears or beneath your sternum if you are going to take a dead girl's credit card (although the first thing I thought of was the Fawn Lebowitz scene in Animal House).

Common sense, a conscience, and self-reflection would prevent a typical person from doing something.

It is mind boggling, isn't it? I mean, I am not defending the indefensible, but I am admittedly curious as to what the fuck he was thinking.

The only thing that I can think of is a deep need for money. Money for a kid of his, his family, whatever. He got in trouble for selling his 2006 BCS ring, so either he is a sociopath who likes cash, or his need for money is so overwhelming that he will do reprehensible shit to further some perceived greater need.

People can talk themselves/rationalize some pretty weird stuff. Maybe he thought that now she was dead, only the bank would be the victim, but when you hear the first charge was the day after the couple died, I can only stare into space and say - No, there is no way to rationalize it unless it was needed to do something like keep someone from starving or some weird deal like that.

I'm going with the sociopath theory, and if he is one, a person incapable of responding in a normal empathetic way, that usually means that he was abused as a child. So I guess I am all on board his immediate dismissal, but puzzled by the how-did-it-happen.

Just a terrible thing for the family. A terrible day for Gator Nation.
